I prefer to just listen to the music rather than wearing the earphone. If it's louder, it's harmful for your hearing. And I don't feel it's comfortable for ears after wearing for a long time. But it will not bother others and this is its advantage. However, I turn down the volume and it works the same.

Wow! I'm back, and since my absence, you have shot up in the number of replies! Wow again! I'm still at my miniscule well under 500 number. ;o( But happy for you :o) I also see that you have started and posted many discussions.
About music. In the house, I usually listen to it all on the radio or CD. But when outside of the house, of course it usually has to be with the walkman. Walkmans/Walkmen?, are very handy since you don't have to get off the lazy bum to go change the CD, change volume, etc, but just pick it up and do it then and there. :o)

Hi youless! I really don't like using earphones. When I listen to music I just turn on the volume if I want it a little louder or turn it low if I want it softer. I do agree with you that is can cause some harm in our ears.
Take Care and Happy Mylotting!

I sometime enjoy the sound good headphones gives me, but normally, I just listen without headphones.
I have a very funny story to tell you about listening to music wearing headphones.
Several years ago, my husband and I took our daughter to the airport for her return flight back to where she lived. She had purchased a new portable CD player with some new CDs to listen to while on her long flight home.
While we sat in the crowded airport waiting for her flight to arrive, my husband put the headphones on his head and began listening to a new CD. He had the music up pretty loud and he was singing along to himself, knodding his head to the beat of the music.
The flight finally landed and the passengers exited into the terminal. While we waited for the plane to receive its maintenance, we watched one of the workers towing what resembled a porta-potty.
Without realizing you don't have to scream over the music (because the one wearing the earphones is the only one who can hear the loud music), my husband screamed out the word "Toilet", as he pointed like a little boy out the window toward the porta-potty. Everyone in the terminal looked toward my husband as if he was mentally challenged and began to laugh when they saw that he was wearing earphones. He smiled as he looked at us and went right back to knodding his little head to the beat of the music.
As everyone in the terminal laughed my daughter and I laughed so hard we thought we would bust a gutt. With an annoyed looked on his face, he removed the earphones long enough to ask me, "What the heck are you two laughing about"?
I had to explain to him what he had done and how the other passengers got a good laugh out of him yelling out the word 'toilet'. He just shrugged his shoulders, returned the headphones to his head and started knodding to the beat of the music again.
We laughed about that for days and to this good day, when we see a passenger jet take off, he points and yells, "Toilet"!

You know, we live in a dorm for 4. Thus we always use earphone in order not to bother others. While I am at home, I still use them. Maybe that become one of my habit and I am just so used to it, even though I know it's not that good for my hearing.

To be frank,i don't like to use earphone to listen to music. It's hard for our ears if we listen the music with earphone for a long time or aloud voice.
I think most of people love to listen music, music can relieve my burden and lessen my tension, making me more creative and dynamic.Music has its own magic to let us fall in.If there are no people around me or i stay in my home,i will use sound box to play the music, the beautiful note will be full of the house. But if there are people around me.i will use earphone though it's not good, but i think short time wearing is ok.Maybe the people around me need quiet or they are thinking something.the music will disturb them.It is unpolite and respect to people.
Sometimes i listen music when i sleep.and when i fall asleep quickly, forgeting to turn off the earphone. After several times my listening is worse than before,so i never listen music to sleep now.
I want to emphasize that it's really bad to wear earphone for a long time.
