How do you get your cat to respond to his name?

I've borrowed books on this topic and tried out many different ways to get my cat to come to me when called - using food as an incentive, etc. It doesn't really seem to work, and I'm beginning to think my cat is seriously ignoring me! Do you face the same problems too? Recently I came across a piece of information that shed some light on my predicament - cats have wonderful hearing, if it seems like they're ignoring you, then well yes they are. Please do share some tips! I'm willing to try (nearly) everything.

what i did with my cat is to say to him a lot of times by that name.. loud , so they react and see you talking to him, and when theyre seeing me i take some food... anyway the best way is too call him by his name a lot of time and it will know that youre talking to him. its better if it is a recently born cat... hope it helps :)

Thanks! I'll keep trying. It's demoralizing sometimes! ;o(

Well sadly for me, my cat was born deaf. He can only hear really high pitch sounds and feels vibration. He uses his other senses to do things. He seems to know when we are happy or sad, or sick. Now for a non deaf cat, like my mother-in-law's cats. You can simply call out their name. Keep calling them by that name, they will eventually realize you mean them. Give the cat a toy and just try to play with him. It will take time but believe me, it will work. I wish you well.

Wow! A deaf cat? That must be really quite challenging. How do you interact or communicate with it?
