Are You Big & Brave or A Screaming Blithering Wreck when Having Injections?

My son had to have all his pre-school jabs recently and I think I suffered more on his behalf. He was so good bless him and only cried afterwards as one of the injections had made his arm feel stiff. I am ok with them myself, but one of my daughters we literally have to hold down to have one as she is so frightened of needles. So are you brave and ok with injections or do you run a mile and have to be held down. Please share any stories you may have too. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie-I don't mind injections and blood tests have had so many it doesn't bother me anymore-but my daughter grandson and one of my sisters are terrible with them-my sister has to be held down like your daughter but my daughter has to be strong for her son yet she still goes very pale and nearly faints at times-littleowl

Hi Littleowl, I am fine too but it does sound like a lot of your family are like my daughter with them. Well done to your daughter for being brave in front of her son though as if she wasn't he would be even worse with them. Thanks for sharing. Ellie :D

injections don't hurt they are just a minor inconvenience, I watch the needle going in, my son is not afraid either. I feel if I could go through childbirth and the dentist and several operations if all I have to get is a needle I am laughing. Don't teach your children to be afraid of needles show them by example, show then it hurts just for a second and then it is okay.

I have always been fine with them, it is only one of my daughters that isn't. I think the reason my son cried after was the sting from the medicine that had been injected like Oreo says. I never show my children any fear, I'm a good girl at the dentist too (they don't know I can't stand going LOL) and so are they. Thanks for sharing. Ellie :D

I don't think I've ever been afraid of needles or shots, even when I was little. Once I realized they don't really hurt that bad, I was okay. I donate plasma twice a week and am just so used to getting poked now, plus I have tattoos. Obviously the sensations are very different and the needles don't go in as far with tattoos, but a lot of people are afraid of getting both. One thing I don't like to do, though, is look at the blood. Blood kind of skeeves me out...

Hi Thanks for sharing. I am okay with it too but my daughter is absolutely terrified of needles and has to be held down and yet you mentioned tattoos and this daughter has two already and lots of piercings which doesn't make sense really. I only have one tattoo but appreciate their art, even set up a tattooist in business in my youth and let him practice on me with no inked needles all over. My friend has the most beautiful back tattoo of wolves under the moonlight from abirthday card that I received that she feel in love with and it looks absolutely amazing. I'm okay with blood its sick I can't cope with if someone is sick around me I retch myself and am quite often sick myself too! Ellie :D

Hello ellie. When I was in grade school, there was an event wherein all students need to take their shots. I was so scared that I hid myself in the restroom. By the time I was found I felt as if my heart will just drop to the floor. Fortunately, I have outgrown that kind of "terror" but I still don't like needles. The last time I spent in a hospital was when I gave birth. I told myself that all the shots I need to take will only last a few seconds, especially the shot I need to take for the epidural. But boy, did it hurt!

Thanks.Actually, when my husband explained to me where the epidural shot will be injected, I almost backed out.I told him an injection on the arm is one thing, but being injected somewhere along my spine was another. But in the end, I finally agreed to have that. It didn't help though when the person who was about to inject me firmly told me not to move a muscle or else...!!!And that "or else" made me imagine all the horrible things that can happen. If I become pregnant again, I don't think I want to go through that again.

I couldn't have an epidural because of a pelvic injury years ago which would have made it very difficult for them so I got the easy way out in a sense as they also knew I couldn't go into labour naturally in advance. Having such a fear of needles I think you were amazing allowing an epidural I really do. Ellie :D

I myself am not too bad with injections but I can imagine my daughter doing the same as you bless. The thought of an epidural terrified me though and all three of my children I had general anesethic ceasarians with rather than be awake and experience that so well done you for being so brave. Thanks for sharing. Ellie :D

I did not fuss too much, as it is quickly done! It does not hurt if it is not jabbed in the wrong way! I gave a few during my training, and it did not seem to hurt if it was done correctly! The little boy watched as I told him what I was doing, and he did not cry at all! It was very inspiring! As long as we know what is happening, it does not frighten so much and therefore causes less pain!

Hi Olivemai, Thanks you for sharing. My son was fine with it, it was afterwards one of his arms was aching but I think that was more to do with the medicine that had been injected. I don't mind them myself but one of my daughters we have to pin down to have, she is terrified of needles bless. Ellie :D

Well, as a mum I have several stories. Personally, when I have injections I can't watch the injection go in... I tend to look the other way until I feel it go in then I'm okay to look. But then, as a child I had a LOT of injections because I was admitted to hospital 74 times over a period of ten years due to severe asthma and had to have an IV every time.
My son is a wuss when it comes to injections. I remember one time he had to have his shot as a baby and he yelped and pulled his leg away as soon as the needle went in. We had to pin him down so the doctor could do it again.
My oldest daughter has never been phased by injections. I remember taking my son for his at 6 months old and she got her hep C at the same time. She watched it go in without a word or a tear. But as we were leaving she looked up at me and very matter of factly stated 'Mummy, that hurt!' LOL

Hi, Poor you you must have felt like a pin cushion after 10 years and 74 admissions over that time period of injections. I suppose you got used to them. Wow your daughter is so brave but I can understand your son being like that as my own daughter needs to be pinned down and she is 17 now bless but is petrified of them. Thank you for sharing. Ellie :D

Suffice to say, all those injections as a kid were a great preparation for pregnancy... which is another time of life that leaves you feeling like a pin cushion. These days there seem to be more and more things they test for. I know with my youngest child I had a lot more injections than I did with the first two mentioned in this response. BTW, the youngest is fine with injections too... though we have to distract her before she gets the jab.

I have absolutely no problem getting injections. I just prepare mentally a few seconds and I'm ready to get the jab. My older son id good too. Even as a baby, he would just wince and it was all over.
But my younger one (17 months) does cry (understatement! He actually screams) for a minute and then he's okay when distracted (I'm going to have trouble with that one!).
My sister's scared too...and I remember 3 of us holding her down after she ran out and three rounds of the hospital for a small shot. I think she also kicked one of the nurses in the stomach...and she was 10 then!

I am okay with it for myself...but with my kids someone else had to take them into the room to get their shots....I would just plain pass out if they whimpered a bit. I couldn't stand to see them be hurt and had the mother's instinct to attack the nurse of doctor LOL...not really but I couldn't watch them have their shots...seriously.

My hubby decided it was time for me to get life insurance. This required blood samples. A nurse comes to the home to do this. It was no big deal. So I say brave. My 4 1/2 year old on the other hand is another story. She really doesn't like shots. I suffer for her.

Thanks for sharing. My 4 year old is fine so am I but one of my daughters is terrible and we have to hold her down bless. She will do anything to avoid having an injection. I think it is the needle she is frightened off, if she sees that she is worse. I agree we suffer for them, that part of our job as a mum I think! Ellie :D

I hate it, hate it when my children have to have those injections, I cry everytime, I am such a mardy baby for them!! When I was pregnant I was always having to have blood taken for some reason or another, and I hated it. I am not scared or anything I just do not like it and have to look the other way. They always have real trouble getting the blood out too, so I would end up with massive bruises on my arms. But I am definately worse when it comes to the kids having to have them done!!

Oh Gemini_rose, I think any mother is. I would much rather be me having these jabs than my children. My other two are okay with them but my middle one is absolutely terrified of them and even at 17 she still has to be held down bless. Thank you for sharing. Ellie :D

I am outwardly brave inthat I do not run or
make a scene but inwardly I am a sniveling]
coward and hate being stuck. so what happens
I get sick with bleeding diverticulitis and
am hospitalizedfor four days. For three of
those four Ihad to have blood tests done
every four hours around the clocke.whew
that meant a lot of sticks but I was just
ill enough that there was not a whole lot
I could do about it except yell and I did not
want to do that.lol then on top of that were
four blood transfusions but wonderfully they
only had to stick me once and leave the needle
in place. so that was my little story.

Hi Hatley, diverticulitis is a stomach problem isn't it, that in itself must have been very painful for you. To be inwardly not likeing injections I would say you were very brave and that blood transfusion one really hurts every time you move your hand you can feel the tap that is in you, that is just horrid. I hope you are well now though and that you don't have to experience too many injections in the future. Thank you for sharing. Ellie :D

injections... one of my worst enemy. lol... i really hate it when they poke you with it. when i get shots i may look calm on the outside but when i start moving towards the chair and sitting on it and stretching out my arm my heart is already in my throat pounding! hahaha.. and my heart pounds harder when i see the needle. everytime i got my shots i had to stop the doctor or the nurse once or twice for me to be calm and collected again before they really stick the needle in. grrr... but i would just take it. i guess it would depend on how the doc. or the nurse hold the needle and what do you call it umm.. pinch the skin on your arm if they inject you there, coz some people have heavy hands and it could affect the person with pain or not. my sister on the other hand squirms and has to be held, lol... i remember one time she had to take a shot she kept crying so hard and my dad has to hold her that after the shot she got fever. lol.. but it went away the next morning...

When i was in my elementary years, my mom and my teacher were able to clm me down by assuring to me that i will only feel like i was bitten by an ant. So, i was behave until it was done, until now, everytime i will have some injections, those words will always assure me and i can say, i am brave a little and will just close my eyes until it's done! LOL!

I actually have two stories. When my oldest son was just an infant I took him in for shots and a 300 lb nurse had a needle in both hands and came down on that poor baby's legs with such force that he cried for 7 hours non-stop. Needless to say I was livid. My second son had to have 6 shots all at once and he was so brave. Then they messed one up and had to give it to him a second time and still he didn't cry. I was very proud of him. He's got shots coming up at the end of the month and I'll bet he doesn't flinch.

Thanks for sharing, how awful for your little one to be crying solidly for 7 hours after, I'd have been livid too. He must have been in so much pain bless. Also your brave soldier that had seven in total and didn't cry at all. I am okay with needles but one of my daughters literally has to be held down for them. Ellie :D

I'm not scared of injections. There is no pain when the needle is inserted. It's a bit painful when the medicine is injected.

I have no problem when the time of injection.Really the pain in the time of injection is very less. But the needles make us fear about it.That is the problem.
But i had a painful injection some years ago.It was to extend my teeth. The doctor injected three times in my mouth. It really make hurt.
Thanks

Ellie..I'm ok with them since i know it has to be done..and i just calm myself and keep talking to the person..but if i hear that one of my grandbabies needs shots..I become the biggest nutcase and really can't watch..I just hate to hear them in pain.I'm not much help to my daughter then but she understands.
