Global catastrophe - would it be all bad?

One of my favourite TV series is "Survivors" a 70s British series in which somewhere between 90-99% of the human race is killed by a global plague, and the survivors are left having to fend for themselves without modern conveniences such as electricity and medicine. It's one of those series that makes you wonder how well you'd cope in a situation like that, and it got me thinking - would it be all bad? OK, so you'd have to grow your own crops, fend off packs of wild dogs, perform your own apendectomies etc. No law and order, no utilities, disease outbreaks a constant fear etc. But I'm a basically optimistic type, so I got to thinking - what would be the positive aspects? What would make life worth living after the near-extinction of the human race? Here's a list I came up with: No more taxes. No more getting stuck in traffic jams to get to a boring, underpaid job. No more boring, underpaid job - because the boss is dead. No boring football or soap operas on TV. Plenty of fresh air, because without heavy industry there's going to be a lot less pollution - and besides, you'd most likely be out in the fields working the land all day. Plenty of exercise, again because of all the farm work you'd be doing to grow your own food. All worries about overpopulation done away with at a stroke. No more substandard Hollywood remakes of classic films. No government, therefore no more silly pointless bans on things that people enjoy doing. No noisy next door neighbours. No Olympics being used as a political football every four years. No more dole scroungers. No more politicians. That's just a list I made up off the top of my head, I'm sure life after the end of civilisation as we know it would have other benefits to compensate for the inevitable disadvantages - would anyone like to add their own list?

No more stupid television shows, because no one would have time to watch television. No more tabloid magazines to encouraging celebrities to do stupid thing. I believe that most celebrities do what they do just to find themselves in thoses tabloid magazines. I would miss playing golf. I am sure that I would not have any time to practice my swing. I would be able to hunt more often. No more hunting seasons. No more hunting regulations. Of course I would not be hunting for the fun of it, I would be hunting for survivial. I do wonder what people who live off of government will do. I wonder how fast it will take for vegans to become omnivorous like their body was made to be. No more animal rights morons, because it will be eat or be eaten. Anarchy has some good points. I do not believe that we should do away with all government but some time I do wonder what it would be like to be without other people ruling myself. Something to think about.

I like the one about the tabloid magazines. Most "celebrities" these days don't even seem to be famous for doing anything.
