Are you frightened of bees and wasps?

May 11, 2008 2:22pm CST
I am ridiculous when a bee or wasp approaches me. I have never been stung though so maybe what I do works! But I end up running and waving my hands about everywhere. What fuels my fear is that people around me have been stung. A dopey wasp stung my mums hand, a dopey wasp stung my brothers ex girlfriend on her armpit and a bee stung my mates bum, lol! Are you frightened and what do you do?

She was walking with him and is one of those who uses her hands to explain things lol, so sher lifted her arm and the wasp went under it. She then put her arm down and of course it stung her. I found out off my brother lol.

Please stop running and waving your hands whe you see a bee or wasp. What you are doing is making the insect believe it is being attacked. Which puts into attack mode. Near where you are running and waving your arms, someone is getting stung because of your actions. A someone who may be allergic. It is difficult to do, but you must stay still. Ignore the wasp and it will ignore you. If one lands on you, stay perfectly still until it flies off. Which it will with no problem. I know this from personal experience. I am allergic to insects. I prefer not to get bit. Once, one landed right on my eyelid. I had to just stand there until it flew off. I think it was harder on my dad who was standing next to me. He had to stand there and do nothing while worrying about his little girl getting stung -- in the eye. But, we waited it out (probably only a few seconds) and it flew off with no harm. Bees and wasps don't know we aren't a threat. If we act like a threat, they will react to the threat. If we don't act like a threat, they go away.

My mother stayed completely still once and the wasp still landed on her hand and stung her for no reason. They sometimes do this. Thats why I prefer to run and avoid them. It works a treat. Also, honestly, I don't run around unless I know the people around me and they run too. Otherwise I feel like a fool. So no one around me has been stung because of it.

The last time I was stung by a bee would be 1972 and since then I just ignore them or help them out of the house by slowing directing them outside with my hand or object.I do remember saying hello to a neighbour in about 1980 on my way into the house and 5 minutes later he was taken by ambulance to the hospital because of a bee sting (allergy).Man they work fast for those allergic!Welcome to MyLot and hope you have a great time here.

Yes I am afraid. But my mother and I are both allergic. My moms foot swelled up to over 3 times it normal size, after she stepped on one. And she spent a significant amount of time in the hospital. I find being still is helpful. That way they don't get angry. Of course I do tend to whimper. And my hubby deals with them for me.

Gosh, that sounds awful. So far I don't know of any allergies that I may have myself luckily, so hopefully I wont get stung and find one out.

I do not afraid of bees, wasps or hornets. I inherited it from my ancestors - I remember as my grand-grandpa worked on roofing repairs and dosposed of wasp nests by his bare hands. His son, my grandad, was allergic, though... And my second grandpa's hobby was beekeeping and worked with bare hands too. Actually, I believe that if somebody is not allergic, some bee stings would prove healthy... It says that more problematic would be when you got stung in springtime, by some bee (wasp etc.) which is first time out after winter. I can't prove or dsprove it anyway. I think that lot of spring bees are actually newborns, but I may be wrong...

I'm horrified of them. I stepped in a hornets nest when I was six and ever since I've hated them. Then when I was like, 11 or something my friend put a stick into a snake hole and hit a bees nest. We were chased out of the woods (we were hiking).. So I've avoided them ever since. I'm not allergic and when I'm around them I try to ignore them but it's a reaction to swat when I hear something buzzing around me.

i'm more afraid of the bees from the moment i heard from someone that bees get into ur ears .from that moment onwards i always try to avoid the bess that get around me when i'm out in the woods or anywhere else. there was an incident when i was in school dat oneof my frinds hit the bee hive with a stone and al of a sudden all the bees spread like wild fire .all of us fled the scene . only the one who hit the hive was caught by the bees and he ended up in hospital for almost a week.

Yes with good reason since I am allergic to bee stings. I avoid anything with a stinger to play it safe. I have been stung by wasps, bees and worst one yet was a hornet. I keep benedryl handy with me at all times, some in my purse when im traveling and most at home. Freak accident with the hornet was when I stuck my hand in a newspaper stand metal container and was stung immediately. I screamed and cried til i got home for i didnt have any meds with me. I have fast reactions it makes me sick to my stomach, heart races and effects my breathing. Lish

Yes, ever since I got stung 26 times in one day when I was around 10 years old, I can't stand them. Every year we get them at the top of our house, a hive of some sort, and it drives me nuts. I wish I had a way of keeping them away from me, but you know how those summer months are.

I am afraid of wasps only, and i tend to get away from them if i see one. Bees won't hurt you without a serious reason because they die

haha...... just the same experience with you , my fingers always been stung by bees and swasps when i was very young , because there are many many trees around hour house , so in summer it will incur a lot of bees and swasps , and i was afraid of them , when i was stung , generally we will use rice dumpling roll over the finger for several times , and it will be brought out at last , then we will use toliet water ( a liquid medicine) to daub on the effected part , it will cute soon .

i fear the wasps a lot... whenever they sting it is very painful and it torments a lot.. and for the bees they are of two kinds... one that stings and the other that do not sting..... i fear the one that do sting. i run away from them... that i think is the best way to prevent stings. have a good day

I get away from them really fast, and it must work, because I haven't been stung in a long time. But I did get attacked one time by bunch hornets after a friend stepped on a nest when we were hiking. Ever since then, I have been allergic.

Yes I am and hornets espically. They are very vicious sometimes espically when you get to close to there nest and a lot of times you might not even know where there nest is it could be underground. I learned that the hardway when I was mowing the lawn once at my old house. A few hornets were circling me and one stung me and I ran out of there and I thought staying still they wouldnt sting me but i was wrong.

I guess I should be, after being stung over 100 times after stepping on a ground wasp nest last year at work. I do know that I have never had that kind of pain in my arms, and still drove myself the 45 miles home. That was my worst experience with it, luckily I was not allergic, or I wouldn't have made it out to the road. I work for the forestry service and we were 4 miles back in a wooded area doing some clearing work. I just try to avoid them, and if they come close, they will have a short life. lol

I use to be so terrified of wasps I didn't want to go outdoors for two weeks after being stung on the neck while riding my bike to the neighorhood candyhouse when I was about 10 years old. Somehow the wasp got down inside my shirt and my best friend yelled to let me know he was in my clothing. I reacted by trying to brush him off. Well, I got stung real good. The lady who ran the candy store got some Dr. Tichners and a pair of tweezler to remove about 10 barbed stinger out of my neck. It was awfully painful. I guess it stung me in a very sensitive area behind the neck near my head and spine that may the pain so excruciating. I got stung again as an adult and found it to be therapeutic. They just do what comes natural as a defense. I'm not mad at wasps.

Hi, I have been stung so many times by bees, wasps and hornets that I am not frightened anymore, I just find it very annoying. Once I mowed over a yellowjacket hornet nest and got stung about 60 times. I had to take my coveralls off outsie as they had managed to get inside them and were relentlessly stinging me. After that I was a little woozy, but I would not say I am scared of them. cheers,
