How can I improve my blog?

I would take out the part about global warming in your header, lol. I think global warming is a big political scam - kind of like acid rain was. they're actually proving we're going through a global cooling phase and that it's just a natural part of the earth's cycle. Other than that I think you have a nice layout and good idea with being green. You could try to find some new free themes by typing in free blogger themes - or maybe try to custom design a header that has a logo/picture that goes with the theme. looks like it's coming along - it takes some time but after awhile you can get some good loyal readers.

The whole title area is pretty bland. I agree with the other reply about your blog description content, not that good of lead-in, and I also think the style does nothing to attract nor retain readers. I think most of your problems stem from using a very bland and generic template with some poor choices for font colours. You are running it as 3 columns, but with only two columns worth of content. Either change to the 2 column version of this template or balance the left-hand column to the right-hand. Find some widgets to add some corresponding news feeds, maybe add a "green" photo slide-show in the left column. Get rid of the fluorescent green font, pick a real green for your fonts. Including better images in your articles would be a big step forward. Go with really good images or none at all! For someone hoping to become a serious journalist, that top article and image are total camp and nothing but a display of yellow journalism.
