I was just thinking about an essay I did for college on why humanity fights. Among the reasons that I found among all the others was an interesting one, love. The idea is that if you love someone, then you must do all you can to protect that person. If you allow that person to come to harm in a position where you could have stopped it, then how can you state you loved that person? If that person is threatened then you will do all you can to defend them, right? I think war is inevitable, but I want to hear your thoughts!

Most people i know fight because its fun so if you have to participate in their fun how can you justify your actions as done for love? As a romantic its natural, however do not assume defense or aggression acts are set up by romantic goals. Thats being a bit too naive.

Well, its not the sole issue, that is quite obvious. As I mentioned there are a multitude of factors, where love is only one. And I should have noted above that the idea of love being a reason for war is only valid when the previous reasons, such as land, were violated.

I think I follow your reasoning but because I grew up in the Kennedy Era, I went to war because as a nineteen year old with very little meaningful work experience I decided that serving my country was a positive act. I still believe it was even though we were viewed as the bad guys. That we failed in keeping that country free from opression wasn't because we didn't try, I think it was because there was little unity of goals on our side however thats digressing. Your example is pure romance and false because fighting reveals an inability to communicate and rarely does the one being fought about want to continue an aquaintence with a thug for very long.
