gas: gallons vs litres

Canada

So here in Canada our gas prices have finally reached $1.25 and higher per litre. In the states they are paying over $3.25 and higher per gallon. Which one costs more? Why doesn't the government do something. Who owns all the oil factories and fields that makes it so high and why is gas so costly? My friend just put in over $85.00 in her tank to fill it up. How much does a full tank cost you...make sure you tell us what the price was and where you are from.

I don't know where you are in Canada, Tamarama34...but here is how you can figure who is paying the most for fuel... A Canadian gallon is 4.546 Litres An American gallon is 3.786 Litres....therefore; A Canadian gallon @ 1.25 a litre is $5.682 a gallon and the American is $3.25 for an American gallon. But you must remember that the American gallon is .76 litres smaller than our gallon. Where I live on the West Coast (on a small island) our gas is $1.439 which is $6.77 a gallon. Over 77% of the price we pay for fuel goes to the Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments. Obviously the governments won't do anything, because, if you figure the ratio..if they were taxing at 50%....50% of $10.00 is $5.00....but 50% of $12.00 is $6.00! That's just a simple formula. So, you see, the higher the price we pay, the more taxes they grab! Cheers!

My husband and I were hollaring about 3.65 a gallon. We live in Illinois. I will have to tell my husband what you are paying, pergammano. The governments have us coming and going because we have to have gas for the car.

AND here's the rub...our provincial government has recently passed a bill that June 01, we will be paying another 2.5 cents per litre, or 11.4 cents a gallon as "Carbon Tax." I think by summer's end, we will be paying $10.00 per gallon here on the West Coast of British Columbia! PLUS by September 1st our Hydo will have increased by 15%....Phew! Cheers!

The SUV costs over $100.00 to fill, the truck about the same. We have a Honda Accord that we use for grocery shopping etc and that costs about $40.00 to fill. The government won't step in to help because it isn't directly hurting them. I am sure if they had to pay out-of-pocket to fill their tanks they would be doing something about it.

I live in Nebraska in the United States and the last I knew gas was $3.69 a gallone and going up. It is being said that gas could get up to $5.00 a gallon this summer. I will be staying home and walking alot. It took $88 for my husband to fill his truck last time and all he does is drive to work and back.

You can convert between US gallon and litre at this website. http://www.etoolsage.com/converter/fuelconverter.asp And if you enter one of unit price such as $1.25, you can calculate another.
