Does anyone make decent money doing freelance writing?

I do freelance writing for a site called (Associated Content) AC and earn a bit of extra money. I found this site (myLot) by searching around for other paying sites, but from what I can gather, it's probably only going to pay a few dollars a month. AC gives me an average of $9.00 per article. Do any of you know of other writing sites that pay at least this amount or more? I could write about 4-5 articles a day and would like to earn around $50.00 per day.
Do any of you earn a decent living doing freelance work or any other legit. work at home business? I'd love to start a discussion on this topic.

I went to join Associated Content but it appears that they only pay members from the US. Are you from the US and have you been paid yet, like in your paypal account? I would love to do it but I just can't seem to find a reputable one that actually pays and accepts members from Australia :(

Yes, I am from the US. AC has paid me several times, quickly through PayPal. They seem to do exactly as they say they will. I have no complaints.
