Do your children get stressed over exams?

It is exam time here.
I have three of my five children sitting exams.
My 11 year old daughter is doing her S.A.T.S all this week.
Then i have my two eldest sons who are 15 and 16 sitting their G.C.S.Es.
I am lucky as my children are very laid back and don't get stressed over them. They are all expected to do well. I have always told them to just do their best. As exams can always be resat if they don't pass.
But they have been telling me that some of their friends are getting so stessed out that they are making their selfs ill over it.
Do your children get stressed over exams and how do you reassure them?.

I'm 15 (on my dads account) and did a GCSE test today for science. It was quite stressful. But before I did that, we did a practice one for maths. What I found stressful is the way I have been taught differently over the years. Things teachers have said to me seem to contradict each other and things I have supposedly learnt are a blur. They mess me around too much, sending me to different classes to learn more, confusing me more and worrying me more as they teach things I find too hard for my learning. I am expected and pressurized to do far more than I know for a fact I can do. I know I can get a C, I know I could perhaps get a B but it would help if they taught me those questions rather than the hardest as I ALWAYS forget the harder solutions to questions due to them being too complicated.
In fact, it doesn't help that I have several times found mistakes in the papers.
Nobody reassures me as the parents are told about how we are supposed to be revising things we haven't got the information to do so, meaning there is just more pressure.
I can;t see the point in tests anyway. It is supposed to be a test on what we have learnt over the years, not a test on everything they try and clump in our heads last minute to make the school look good.

I do agree that you can be overloaded with too much information. It must be very difficult to remember. I don't think that i could do it.
Also i can understand about the different teaching methods. My 15 year old son is behind with his I.T coursework due to the fact that they were not told what coursework they had to do until they got a new teacher about 5 weeks ago so now they have to work even harder to catch up.
Good luck with your exams. I hope they go well for you.

Thank you!
And ahh. IT. I chose it as my option but they didn't let me in as too many people chose it, many of which will probably not carry it on in later education as I wished.
But we do have one class of IT a week where we are to do a GCSE, or should I say I was supposed to have done but the school have taken me out of it for 7 weeks for a stupid thing where a woman from a University comes in and talks about it. I'll never get a GCSE in it now the way things are going.

Mine do! They are already stressing over finals which start in a couple of weeks and my kids are only 12 and 14. I think there is too much pressure placed on them to pass these tests and if they don't do well, it affects their records for the rest of their school life. Testing is fine, but it should be a measure of both the teacher and student to see what the student has learned. It should not be the sole benchmark to get into college or to judge a child's intelligence level. I always tell them to try their best and that's all I request.

There has been much made of SATS and stress in the media lately, not all of it good news. When my son was sitting his SATS I made a big point of telling him that he could only do his best and that was all he could do. He spent a certain amount of time revising each day, but then I also made sure that he had some chill out time to himself too.

Hello littleone,
I have no kids but i want to share with you my friend's experience.Every long exam of her children, the eldest one is quite weak to face it, he will go home and cry and become hysterical since he doesn't like to fail and it will make him afraid to try, the mom will have a hard time explaining to the kid that it is that way, he just need to relax so that he can recall what they have studied during the night, talking and assuring to kids about it will help them in a way and also exposing the kids to other kid for games and any activities so that he will learn to develop self-confidence and develop the value of sportmanship!

This week my 9 year old has something called PACT Tests. She is stressed out over them and does so everytime she has something like this. She does very well in school so I am not sure why she worries so much over them. But she does not make herself ill. I have always told her to just do her best and I always give her some pointers on how to get through it. But she still always worries.

I don't have any children yet but when i was in my school age, i never get stressed after the exam. But i do get stressed before the exam. I am stressed out in reviewing my notes and thinking on how can I remember my notes and how can I pass the exam. After exam, I do feel more comfortable and relaxed coz I already released the tension and nervousness. I never think that i will fail in the exam. I always think that i will pass the exam coz I reviewed my notes and I never took an exam unprepared.

Examinations are really stressful. I remember the time when I was reviewing for my college entrance tests because I want to get in the top universities here in our country. I would attend review classes everyday during my summer vacation. It was very tedious because it is from 1 to 5 pm in the afternoon. I even had to commute by riding the train to get there. I was very stressed because I was trying to get all this information in my head like mathematical equations, theories, formulas, sentence structures, history and the like. It was hard to remember all those stuff in just a short span of time. During the exams, you are more pressured because there is a time limit that makes you want to hurry answering the questionairres. I hope you guys know what I mean. A student's life is indeed difficult.

Examination period is very stressing period for our sons.
They become tired by reading and writing . but to make them refresh we have to make them free from studyies and play some relaxable games so that they will come again in the mood of study. In this way we can reassure them .
