hello warriorthree! tagalog is so easy to learn, i swear. I'm a filipina. before I'm not used to speak tagalog because we have our own dialect in our province, but after we moved to Manila which is a tagalog speaking place, I learned to speak tagalog in less time.

Hi rob! Well, it's a lot of explaining to do and I don't think this is the proper venue for that. If you have a Yahoo messenger, please post your ID here so I can add you and explain the language better through.
My sense is that you're communicating with your fiance through a text message or chat which makes it more complicated because the shortened words you mentioned are not spelled right. This is usually done by filipinos when sending a text message or chat to save time and character space.

I think your difficulty lies in the fact that you are trying to learn Tagalog using short messaging or texting. I think that is the downside of cellphones and texting, people tend to abbreviate words to get more in to fit one message. The result is we now forget how to spell the words we commonly use. And if a beginner were to learn the language based on that, well, yes it will be a little hard. The best way for you to learn our language is to do it the old-fashioned way: through phonetics and the alphabet, as well as definition. Best of all, practice, practice, practice.

OMG... ur message was 3 months ago. i wish i was able to read ur post earlier so i could have taught u some tagalog. Well, its easy to learn it especially u know the basics. But listen Rob, dont worry a lot coz Philippines is an english speaking country. It is our second language here so it is widely used. I'm sure u wont have any problem. Here is the best you have to learn.. say "mahal na mahal kita" to your fiancee.. it means "i love you very much".

hi again... everytime you say "po" it is a sign of respect and that's good. Learning each other's culture and language is a very nice idea. I'm sure your wife-to-be will love you more for thinking that way... And it is also important that you win the hearts of her family... lol. Filipinos love to be pampered and respected... so just continue what you are doing. Goodluck and God bless!

Helo Pearl poh! Musta ka Poh?
Salamat ang comment.Fiancee'akin siya knows pag-ibig ako niya. lol. I know i am not making any sence at all. But I believe to truly love a pinay a man should learn her language as well as her culture and accept both with an open heart. To me, that is true love. Ingat Pearl poh! God Bless.

its som amazing that people from the other side of the earth wanted to learn our language. maybe youll learn more quickly if you get in touch with a lot of filipino people. its really important that youll learn some important word or sentences before going here in our country in that way you can understand simple conversation. here are some samples:
1. how are you?= kumusta ka?
2. whats your name?= anong pangalan mo?
3. im sorry= pasensya na/patawad?
4. where is the store?= saan ang tindahan?
5. how much is this?= magkano po ito?
6. lets eat.= kain na tayo
hope it helps..goodluck

Wow it's nice to hear that a non Filipino is so interested to learn the language. I am happy for you and hopefully you could find a good linguist in my country who could assist you on your yearning to learn our language. I could speak the language but I doubt if I could be of help as I also have a hard time teaching others as I am not an expert on teaching the language myself.
