Do you tan or burn?

Just out of curiosity, since summer is around the corner and heaps of people have started going to the beach, I would like to know...
...do you tan or burn?
...what sunblock or tanning stuff do you bring with you?
...if you burn easily, do you remember the worse sunburnt you ever had and how did you get to that stage?
...
In my case, I tan easily BUT I still get burnt (if I don't watch how long I stay in the sun).
I love Banana Boat sunblock and sun tanning oil - SPF 30 and SPF 5 respectively.
There was this one time I forgot to bring any sunblock and tanning oil but me being the brave (and stupid) one sat out in the sun/semi-shade for four hours and ended up with a burn all over my face, back and chest...needless to say, wearing clothes became a really painful affair. The peeling was even worse. The first thing people remarked when they saw me after that episode was "OMIGOD, did you go to the beach? How in the world did you get burnt????"
=.=

It depends so much of Your skin type. For me, it is very important to use sunblock or I will get burn even after 20 minutes in the sun. My skin is very sensitive, but if I properly use sunblock and other body cosmetics (moisturizers, aftersun lotions etc.), I get nice and likable bronzy tone. I usually use 12 SPF, it is ok for me. Sometimes, if going out in the sun for not more than 30-50 minutes, I use 3-5 SPF oil based sunblocks, and it is still no problesm. So, I suggest to try different SPFs, experiment, but do it sagaciously not to burn.

When I went to Boracay that was the time that I really got sunburn to my whole body I mean at the back especially and to my arms too. Since I did not put sunblock on it and just to my face. It was been hard for me to handle it because I felt so itchy while taking a bath. Something like I I have to scracth on it all the time. Good thing about it I just got tanned on my face like a blush too.

Strange as this may sound I am dark skinned but burn quite easily. It is something I noticed from I was a teenager and was very surprised that I could actually burn and peel that much.
It was a beach experience as well adn I just hate how my skin looks when that happens. I love the beach but the salty sea water and the sun are a terrible combination for my skin.
I got burnt last year december but that was because I was working out in the yard doing alot of cleaning up following a hurricane and preparing the yard for a wedding reception. (lol)I have noticed too that other members of my family burn easily.
It is hard to totally avoid the sun as I live in the tropics so I do my best to wear sun block lotion when i have to. (lol)

It's not very surprising! Lots of dark skinned people I know burn easily; it's just that it's not obvious until they start to peel.
Yeah, the sea water and sun does horrid things to your skin, ie dry it out. Have you tried fresh aloe? It helps with burns and stuff...my mum swears by it as a moisturiser for burns and dry skin! :P

I tan really great but I also can burn on my shoulders and back, and face if I don't watch it. I always use sunscreen anyway - especially on my face because I don't want to end up wrinkly and gross when I get old. And I absolutely can't stand peeling of any sort so I try to avoid it at any cost. Thanks for that sunblock recommendation - I always just use sunblock and nothing for sun tanning - but I think I will combine as well because I do love a golden tan!

Hi! I am an asian race so getting tanned is not actually our likes, asian women love their skin being fair so we get whitening lotion a lot and stay out of the sun. But some of us also wants a tanned skin but it's not a hard try for a certin asian women to make her skin look tanned. I advise, please do take care of your skin and minimize your hours under the sun, otherwise, its not only burnt you get but worser than that.

Yes, my mum is awfully scared about getting tanned and she was pretty envious that I went fairer in Australia during the winters. I was like "Eh? I want to get dark and you want to get white?"
It's the whole old school Asian thought which stemmed from our ancestors who worked the fields - being dark meant that you work the fields and your family isn't rich enough for you to be a "lady of leisure".
In my case, I just want to maintain my tan. :P

If you burn easily you should stay out of the sun if at all possible, and use a sunscreen with a high SPF. They have some really nice SPF 70 and even 85. Burning easliy puts you a higher risk for sun cancer. Try to stay out of the sun between 10am-5pm. That is when the sun is really powerful. This is just some advice. I am seen really bad skin cancers on young people. If you do get burnt some things that can help make you feel better are take an ibuprofen or asprin as soon as you can. And put Hydrocotizone cream on. It will help you with the inflamation.

I usually tan, but the first few days I was in Arizona, I burnt to a bright red crisp!!! I was not yet used to the intensity of the Arizona sun. My husband bought me some really good sunscreen, and I wear it when I need it. Now I am used to the sun down there, and I don't burn the way I used to.

I burn a little bit but then a tan a little after it fades. I have pretty fair skin so i go a bit red but it calms down quite quickly! It's been lovely over the last few weeks so i'm a bit red at the moment!

I usually tan. Once I tried putting on sunblock on one arm and suntan lotion on the other... They both turned the same shade of tan. I like using Banana Boat Tanning Spray, though. It smells so good! Sometimes I get sunburns, though. The worst was more than 2 years ago. I hadn't been out in the sun in a long time then I suddenly got way too much sun. I forgot to re-aapply sunblock in the important places. My arms, back, and legs hurt so much that I couldn't even wear underwear to work. All I could wear were loose and sarong-soft clothing. I applied after-sun lotion obssessively just to ease the pain. At home, I walked around and slept naked because I couldn't bear the feel of clothing. Teehee.

Well I tan. I love the sun, I am outdoors all the time in the summer time. As you can see by my avatar. I am always sunkissed. I never use sunscreen or suntan lotion unless we are going to be outside in the sun all dy long, then I may use it.I have been spending alot of time outdoors as long as I can remember and I am 56 years old.

I can tan, but it takes me forever.
My skin is very pale. I never used to use sunblock when I was younger. But I am about to hit 30 and suddenly I am afraid of aging.
I definitely burn.
The last time (last week) I was out in the pool for an extended period of time I used my daughter's SPF 50 waterproof sunblock and still burned.
My shoulders are all freckled from a trip to Disney World my family took when I was in the second grade. My shoulders got so burned and it was really painful. My younger sister and brother have my mom's complexion and they just tan. I have my dad's and we both burn vey easily.

I do tan when I go out in the sun, but I do also get burnt if I stay out too long or don't have adequate protection in the form of a good sunscreen or sunblock. The first place i get burnt is on my nose (doesn't everyone!) Then on the tops of my shoulders. I use any good sunblock or sunscreen product I can find, usually SPF 30. The worst sunburn i can recall is when we went to California for a week on vacation. I stayed in the sun almost the whole day, everyday during that week. Because i was trying to get tan, I was using a lower SPF as well. Well, by the time I got back, my nose was RED. Then it because brown as the burnt skin started peeling off. Why that was the worst was because I had to attend a get-together after returning home, so whereas I was intending to look all tan and good, i ended up looking BURNT!!

I do Tan when I lay out in the sun. LOL
A lot of people have gotten jealous of me for that reason.
They're always saying that they wish that they can tan as well as I do when I'm out in the sun. LOL

I used sunscreen lotion not to get burn in this scorching heat. I don't like to get tanned in sun.I think,I don't look good wearing it.
