Hi there,What do u think about this rise in the price of staple foods like rice and cereals..I got this bag of 10 kg rice before couple of months for 11 pounds..and now, yesterday when i went shopping i saw the price has gone up to 15 pounds..and i heard there's a 30% price increase in all food commodities across the world..Now whats up in ur place..Has the prices have gone up..My In laws in India said the same that rice prices have gone so much up...and my cousin in the US said the same too..that it has literally doubled..also fruits and vegetable prices have gone up..So now what do u suggest, why is this so??And do u think the price will go on up from now...and what should one do now..stock up things as much as possible??

They are saying that it's due to a shortage of grain. Weather conditions, disasters and the fact that so much corn is being raised for fuel instead of food makes a grain shortage. Therefore, bread and rice and everything made with grain or fed with grain is skyrocketing. One cut of meat here has gone from $5.99 a pound to $12.99! Because cows need grain for feed. That means dairy products are rising, as well. I paid $3.56 for cottage cheese that cost me $2.12 a couple of weeks ago.
It's insane. Stock up on non-perishable things that you use most, freeze what you can and start planting a vegetable garden!

I agree upon this subject about grain. Yeah, there may be shortages of certain staple stuff, like grain. So, I would say that if there is shortage of corn in the US, there would be an increase in price. I watched Modern Marvels on the History Channel last week. It was all about corn. So we are all talking economics.

I don't think it is a wise idea to store the groceries for a longer period..May be since you are in Europe, you can do..But in countries at Asia, storage of commodities results in wastage..they are either attacked by fungus or by pests..So I always buy things that are needed for a month..At times I buy things as and when I need themm..I do not know where the increasing prices will result in..If this goes on like this, what will the people under poverty line do for thier living?I'm really amused..

Hi venkat2002! Here in our country, our staple food is rice and it is really expensive nowadays and it has been increasing still. And it is not only rice that is increasing but practically everything except for the salaries and wages. huhu.. Right now, I am running on a tight budget and I am trying to save as much as I can so nothing will be wasted. And as much as I want to stock up on groceries and rice, I can't really because i have no budget for more stocks. I just hope and pray things will turn better soon for all of us.
Take Care and Keep Smiling! Happy Mylotting!

I haven't seen price increases this bad since the late 70's early 80's when I was still a young lad. The prices wouldn't be so bad if they would start growing more things here again instead of having them imported.

I think life on our planet is horrible, due to rising prices of everything. I think it is the end of the world. Especially high rise in fuel prices. Well, our economy is way down. People could not pay for anything at all. I think most of us will go without food as well. No traveling at all. Do you know why all prices are going up? Do you think this will be the end of the world?
