1000-watts smile that won the hearts of Pakistan fans is not to be seen, but Balaji has made a comeback with a determination.
He is still testing his body whether it can withstand his stress.
My heart felt for him when Joginder dived back of him to congratulate him, how did he withstand that weight. Maybe later somebody would have advised Joginder.
It was first in the year 2004 that he had to end his Engalnd tour half-way having torn his abdominal.
He recovered from that.
In 2005 he takes 9 wickets against Pakistan and leaves 1000-watts-smile there which won the hearts of Pakistanis. Pakistan newspapers adorned him and his game especially the SMILE.
Unfortunately injury strikes him in October 2006 when playing a local match against West Zone.
It is almost 1 year 7 months that he his back in action in IPLtwenty20. He had avoided media. Before this he played in the Ranji-tie against Mumbai and Himachal.
After taking him to IPLT20 nobody ever bothered to give a try to him. We should thank Dhoni for bringing him and trying him out, thanks that Hayden, Hussey and Oram left for serving their own country's team.
Some brief medical history.
The treatment that he had in the year 2006 was a failure.
In the year 2007.....
In May he undergoes a surgery and after one month gets into rehabilitation programme.
Initially he had to strengthen his muscles in his lower back, the surgery restricted his movements and he had to excercise to make it free. Posture and balance in his running everything had to be improved and he did excercise with determination and will-power.
It was only in October that he starts training in Cricket under coach W.V. Raman.
He started the training by bowling just 4 or 5 balls a day, that's what he could withstand. His actions were recorded and changes were made.
First how to keep his feet before starting a run and how to land it was studied and the complete run-up and delivery of the ball.
Lakshmipathy Balaji thus started playing local matches in the begining of the year 2008 and underwent special rehabilitation programme.
His body -- could it withstand the stress is still doubtful. But he goes on... The whole cricket stadium will be behind him in future whether he is bowling at Chennai or Delhi or Kokatta or Bangalore or Hyderabad.
Lets pray that 1000-watts-smile comes back to him and brings cheer to all his followers.
