Things are not working for me.

I've been trying for hours to open my email alerts. I'm using IE and Hotmail. When I click on the 'respond to this discussion' button I get a blank page that just hangs. When I refresh I get the 'cannot find server' page.
I've been forwarding the mail to my Yahoo account but they are not going through. I've rebooted the computer. I have dialup and all programs are running slowly and hanging both in IE and Firefox. Ie is worse.
If I paste the url for the discussion in Firefox I can respond but this is taking ages.
Can anyone figure this out or offer me any suggestions? I'm losing money here

I wish I could make it work for you sweety but you have done everything I would be able to suggest! I know that lately there have been times when I try to respond and the connection times out but luckily it never lasts very long before it is fixed! I hope you get some genius to sort this out for you sweety and soon! Hugs xxx

I have to be my own genius Mo and I'm not too good at it mate.... Some things are working better but some things haven't changed. My service provider says dial-up is outdated and there's not much they can do to help me. I asked why they were still charing me for it and they said they were providing me with the best service possible. In other words....we don't care. Oh well.....

My only advice would be to run some scans and to make sure that my filters on yahoo do not exclude my myLot. A few days ago I had a similar problem, but it was evidently myLot. Remember, this is payout time, so this is the time for glitches everywhere. Good luck friend.

Oh, ok gg. People have mentioned glitches at payout time and I haven't noticed...guess this is my wake-up call.
My puter is working better but I still cannot connect to myLot via hotmail. I'm having to open my alerts in a yahoo mail account. I've switched in my preferences now but still answering the backlog in Yahoo.
Thanks for the heads up gg.

I think this is a global phenomena. I mean this morning my net connection has become SNAIL MAIL to say the least. My yahoo is not working either, the pages on IE are coming as if out of deep slumber and I was loathe to add further pressure and did not open firefox. As some have said before me, such things do happen and smoothens out by itself. The last time this happened, some cable conked out somewhere under the sea near Egypt and here I was in India not being able to access my mails and mylot too.
So instead of feeling like kicking the dumb PC, cool down and come back later…we are here for you as always.

It sounds incredible that a cable under the sea near Egypt could affect your computer in India. I've done what I can and seen some improvements and hve figured out a way to get round a problem and resigned myself to having to accept and put up with another problem.
Thanks for being here for me sudipta...much appreciated.

Hi Joan. Surely Mylot isn't foreign to Hotmail?...I've been using it since the beginning. I don't use outlook at all, never have...unless you mean Outlook Express. I try to use Outlook for family and close friends so there is no risk of contamination.
I've changed my preferences in Mylot so my alerts now go to Yahoo and it seems ok. As for gmail, I don't like it. It's too complicated and takes an age to load for me.

Sounds like something is running in the background of your puter thats slowing it down. it may need defragging as well. Other than that I can't say what's happening. Things are okay at my end today and I use AOLs browsers. I say maybe take a break to calm down then try in awhile.

Hiya Bob. I did what the previous responders suggested and have had success although still some problems. I defrag every so often, guess it can't hurt to do it again. I did it about 3 weeks ago. How often do you defrag? My laptop has said I don't need to defrag at this time on a couple of occasions so I don't worry too often.
That Glary's Utilities is good. I had 681 register entries that could be gotten rid of. Things are much smoother.

Look at defragging as reading a book. As you go through the computer doing anything at all you are basically ear marking each page of the book. The more you do things the more earmarked the pages become. When you do something on the puter it stores that file in the front of the system moving others back. Somethings need to be up front of the book so it's quicker to get to/read. So defragging depends how much use the puter gets. I defrag mine at least twice a month. Sometimes once a week depending on my useage.

I had this experience a couple of weeks back and it's just disappointing. I thought it was just a browser's problem as I almost always use firefox so I switch to Internet explorer but the same thing is true. But it couldn't be my browser because clixsense and my blog were opened that day too. For the first time ever, mylot was down on me. So I took that chance to visit other sites that I have been missing. Luckily after half an hour, mylot was back.
Anyway, I'm sure you have figured out the gremlin that caused that to your computer.

I've switched my email alerts to Yahoo because IE is not playing nice for me. It just doesn't work as well as it once did. I'm happier with Yahoo. I changed a setting the other day but once I figured out how to reverse it everything was fine. I really wish I was more savvy in this area.

I don't know why these things sometimes seem to go crazy, Ms Tickle, but they do! I have experienced the same kind of problem before and logging off and back in again will usually fix it. Sometimes you just need to wait a bit and try again later. If it's one thing I've learned about the internet and computers it's that they can often try our patience.

I seem to have reached the bottom of the barrell with both the laptop and pc and now I've come out the other end. A lovely young man downloaded the drivers for both my modems to his own website so I could get them and install them to my computers. They are both the same brand and the company has sold out to someone else and as my modems are old, I couldn't find the drivers...this young man has other resources. Both my computers are now working fine!!! YAY!
Wasn't that nice of him??

It may be a virus infection problem. I've had problems like that too. An anti-virus program might help. You might want to install one onto your computer. There are some available online too.
Good luck to you !

While I appreciate the suggestion I already thought of it and have done all my scans religiously...no threats here mate. I think the techies must be tweaking Internet Explorer and Hotmail, they have several things in beta mode at the moment. This is causing the application to malfunction in certain areas. Not to worry, there are more mail accounts than hotmail....lol

Have you tried System Restore? Go to start and then all programs, accessories, system tools to system restore. Then you want to go to "Restore my computer to an earlier time" then next, and pick a date when it was last working fine and pick the day before that and go from there. It's pretty self explainetory as you go so hopefully that'll work for you.

Hello mate. I thought System restore was for when you changed settings or something and needed to go back to a point beforehand. That's not the case here. I cleared my cookies and did some other things that were suggested here and my laptop is now back to working properly but I'm still having issues with Hotmail. I can open my alerts but I can't respond to them, I have to copy the url into yahoo and respond from there.I'm used to it now as I've been doing it for a few days. I've also gone in and changed my preferences and chnged my email from Hotmail to Yahoo.

It sounds to me more like a problem with your internet provider than your computer. I hope it is all working for you now. We had problems with our internet over the last week, but got onto our service provider who sent out a new modem (on contract, to they have to) and now I am back on line and still staying up until 3am! OMG! Take the internet away again! lol.

I have a bit of a feeling the modem in my lap top is at fault. I'm using my desktop now. The laptop got a new modem less than 12 months ago. Well, it was supposed to be a new modem. It's the second refurbish computer I bought that supposedly hwas working perfectly only to find that a new modem was needed. The "new" modems are installed and needing to be replaced fairly quickly. I hate being taken advantage of in areas that I'm not trained. Grrr.

I wish I could. i have computer problems of my own. I know how frustrating they can be. I hate to go pay a tech for something that is probably simple to solve.
