Seat belt law? Love it or hate it?

I think it is so stupid. I think people can choose for themselves if they want to wear it. If you die because you didn't wear it then it is only your fault. I understand the need for children seat belt laws cause the kids can not make the choice on thier own. I just think it is really sad that we live in a country that a woman can choose to kill her unborn baby cause it is her body, but we can not choose if we want to wear a seat belt when it only affects our own body!

I always use seat belts and think that they are a great safety device. However, I disagree with laws that require seat belt use. That should be a personal decision. In addition to my dislike of silly laws there is a sound economic reason for opposing the laws and that is that studies have shown that different people have different tolerances for risk. People who believe that driving can be dangerous will use seat belts for the extra protection. But those who prefer more risk will use the seat belt to avoid the fine and then, because of the extra protection it gives them, will be more careless with their driving. So mandatory seat belt laws actually increase the possibility of accidents because of the additional risks that people who like high risk will take with their driving.

I agree that it should be a right to choose. I always wear my seat belt and tell my passangers to buckle up cause it makes me feel safer. I also think you should always buckle up children. But if an adult chooses not to wear his or her seat belt they are only hurting them selves.

I can go both ways, I think it's a good thing for people with kids. It forces them to make their kids wear it. I agree that it should be up to an adult to make that choice but not a child. In Va children have to be in a car seat till 8 years old now, which I think is a little to much but if it saves lives then so be it. I allways wear my seatbelt when I'm going to work or on any main raods now if I'm just running up town I have been known not to put it on.
