referral etiquette and myLot

I'm asking for some advice here. Sometimes when people ask for site recommendations, I simply give them the names.... assuming that users know to check with you for the link... However, I have had this happen to me more than once, that the people just join the site directly. So what is the proper etiquette for replying? Should I tell them I will send them my link or should I just leave it open ended. Here is the funniest part. On one of the sites you can earn referrals with internal credits, so I "purchased" two, well, lo and behold, one of the referrals was someone I had referred from MyLot and they didn't do a think so I wasted my two and effort in two places! LOL followed by a BIG ARG!!!

As you can guess I read all your discussions here and most of the responses and I think I know what sparked this off. I thought at the time 'Oh, I hope he adds her name after Googling it but on the other hand who knows what username she has there'. It's easier, as you suggest, when you're referring an older use because they know the ropes (and after the help they've been given, they 'reward' you by using your link). feel it's the newer users who are just inot earning sites that don't realise the benefits for the person referring them. I have got round this by putting links to my blogs in my profile or by adding a user as a friend and using private messages to provide them with my link. If a discussion is started asking for advice about the best sites then I usually pu the direct link to my blogs in the reply as it would seem pertient to the discussion. Some users recently seem to think that many of us in this section are only here to reap referrals though and don't notice that many of us actually help new future online earners. When I read that quite honestly it hurts as I know there were and still are many on here who have been and are a great help to me. Who knows anyway whether a person will or will not be active after joining under your link - that's a gamble anyway. It's a case of pot-luck. Gosh I wrote a lot so to sum it up - links to your blogs in your profile and just hope the users will have the decency to use them

You're right about the amount of time spent! I don't spend time promoting a site that doesn't pay me first. But I have read threads/responses on myLot from posters who flat out said they would remove the referrals id... so know I'll talk about the site, w/o mentioning the name and then give details via private message. I wish I could put the links in a blog, but I use my profile link for my online store, so pm's are the only way to go for me.

You hit the nail on the head. I know which discussion you are referring to, but there was another one just after that. As for people worried about us coming here to find referrals, well, I have met some wonderful people, and if we are fortunate enough to find referrals because someone finds our information helpful, then I don't feel the need to explain myself to someone. It sounds like someone is bitter about not finding referrals. I think with all the helpful information we provide for people and the other discussions we create, then that is pretty sad for them. I think we have given much of our time and energy to helping people on here and don't have to justify our motives to anyone. I always thought because of the TOS most people would know to look in your profile, but from now on, I'm not taking any chances. Um, I have sat down three times now to finish this, so I think I'll leave it at this.

It sounds like someone is bitter about not finding referrals. You said that very kindly. I think some are downright jealous or envious but I know the hard work that some of us put in to what we are doing BEFORE we promote. Nuff said or I shall sound like a moaning old granny

I normally give the site and just a small plug that I can give them a link if they'd like to ask.

Because some jerk didn't like what I had to say and decided to go around and trash every comment I ever made. But hey, I'm not bitter.

Was what you said the truth? I find people on myLot don't always like hearing the truth. LOL

That's what I'm about to start doing. Why do you have a 4 rating?

Since it is against mylot TOS to post links in discussions, I usually give the site name and offer people the option to go there directly to sign up, or give them the option of going to my profile page where they can sign up under me there. That way people have the option of whether or not to sign up under me and I'm not just trolling for referrals.

I get that. I'm just trying to abide by the TOS. Personally, I think it's stupid to ban referral links, but I can sort of see where they're coming from by not wanting to turn this place into a forum for get-rich-quick schemes and stuff. So I give people the option of checking out my profile site. If they want to, and decide to sign up under me, great. If not, they still have the address and can decide for themselves if they want to join.

I would think you should be taking credit for helping someone find a good paying site. I know it's nice to be helpful, but credit should be given where credit is due. I don't think the people asking think you are trolling, they want help, and if you have helped them, surely they would like to help you as well. But I guess each person looks at it differently.

It is so disrespectful when they join the program that you have told them about but do not join under you. If I read about a site, I try to join under the first one that told me about it. After all, we all need to be trying to help one another.

I havent signed up. Partly because I'm not sure I will have the time for one, and two its hard to learn something new. Does that make sense? I have several referalls to one of my sites but I dont think they keep up with it or just join and not do anything. It is frustrating but you cant make them do it unfortantly. Hugs.

I hope you don't think I'm referring to you dangnabit. :( I agree, it does take time to learn new sites.... especially when they are confusing. And I agree that you can't make referrals be active, you can only point them in the direction and hope that they enjoy the site and continue to earn. Thanks for posting. Hugs to you too!

If you don't correspond with them in some manner as to where you can give them a link, but simply give them a name instead, I don't think you should expect them to do anything different than what they did. Put the links on your profile or make another blog or simple web page with the links there, and put a link to that on your profile. Check out my discussions here and see how I direct people to mine. Or at the very least, when you respond to something that you can give a link for, don't give them the name, rather ask them to contact you for more information and you can give them the link then.

I guess I just took it for granted that most mylotters would know to do that. From now on they are going to my profile and blog. Thank you.

If someone asks for a good site and you give them the name, there is absolutely no good reason for them to ask further. I wouldn't assume anything.

Hmmm, I really did think that because of the TOS on myLot that everyone knew to go to people's profiles. As I said, I will be diligent about offering my link now.
