Is there any free music on iTunes?

A friend of mine told me that she regularly downloads free music from iTunes. Maybe she's just exaggerating, because I've never been able to find any links to free music on the iTunes site.
They're a pretty big company, so I don't know why they'd be giving anything away. But, if they were, it would be nice to get some free music. Does anyone have a link to any free music on the official iTunes site? Just wondering. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

me too. i don't think there's a free downloading of music on itunes. i've been working as an IT Assistant for over 2 years and i had been involve into IT since college, i can't say i knew everything but i've never heard downloading free music in Itunes. i've been downloading free music from other sites or software. before i used imesh and kazaa or limewire. but theres a lot of virus there. then i tried multiply.com but they removed it already. if you want to download free music try btjunkie.com there you could download the whole album. it also allows downloading of movies. but you need to install bitorrent first.

Every week iTunes picks a song of the week from a new artist that they offer for free. The song is usually on the front page and is avalible for anyone with an iTunes account. iTunes also offers a free 'itunes u', which is a free service with lectures, videos, and various other content from universities and colleges. Other than that, I've never seen any free songs or music.
