Ever cut yourself with a chicken?

I did the other day. I was raised on a chicken farm and have never heard of anyone cutting themselves on a chicken. I have cut myself with a knife while cleaning or cutting up a chicken, but never before have I cut myself with a chicken. It is actually kind of embarrassing. It happened on Thursday and this is Tuesday. It has taken me this long to share. And now for the rest of the story.....I was reaching inside to clean out the bird so I could bake it. I did not know that aforementioned bird had four broken ribs. The said ribs were sticking out inside where I reached to clean. Three of these ribs were sharp enough to cut my finger. Kinda bad, too. If dripping my own blood is bad. The worst part, after the embarrassment, is when you are reaching into a chicken to start cleaning it, there are a lot of things in there you do not want to get into fresh cuts on your finger. It was very sore for a few days even with peroxide and neo in regular intervals. So, folks, my tip for the day is this...always be careful when cleaning a bird as poultry can sometimes play fowl. lol Blessings. Rev Wendy

Ok, I don't even know how to respond to this! LOL So I'll just 'play chicken' and come back later with hopefully no cutting remarks! ROFL

How did I know you would enjoy this one? My finger is better, though not quite healed yet. Even with all the medication I gave it for the first four days. lol

Just take care of it rev. Finger cuts can be tricky and we would hate to have you reduced to typing with only 9 fingers - very awkward! LOL

good heavens that chicken was out to get you and it did play fowl.lol glad you washed your cut thoroughly as our chickens do seem to carry a lot of unwanted bacteria in them.. blessings to you.

Thank you, Hatley! I has taken over two weeks, but it is finally healed. I was bad enough that it left a scar. Blessings back to you!

I'm the one who's in-charge in the kitchen, well, whenever my father is away at work (overseas)! I haven't done anything like that, really. I mean, I haven't experienced being cut by a chicken or it's bones. Most of the times it's those sharp knives am using, whenever I chop any kinds of food rapidly..

That was my story, too, until that fateful day last Thusday. Like I said, I was raised on a chicken farm. Every spring my dad would get 4 or 5 thousand chickens. We would raise them all summer and usually would only loose a couple hundred to preditors and neighbors. We would do all the butchering by hand. I have never heard of anyone doing that, but me. Hence the embarrasement! lol Wendy

Well don't feel bad, I did that once too. Only i was breaking the joint between the leg and the thigh and when it broke it cut my finger. As you said, it was pretty bad. Those little bones get SHARP edges on them! I am glad it is getting better now.

It has been 2 weeks and it is almost healed. It is going to leave a scar though. Thanks. There were 3 broken rib bones together, so it half cut and half tore. That is why it has taken so long to heal. Have a great night!

Ouch. That sounds painful. It sounds probably though. I cant remember it ever happening to me or anyone else I know. I will be sure to bear the possibility of broken bones in my chicken in mind the next time I have to do one. Thanks for the tip and I hope that hand heals soon. (lol)

yes, i have, actually - sure wasn't funny at the time - i feel for you. i was able to use a funny like this in jr high school, though. i showed up one morning with a good sized bandage (couldn't find a regular band-aid), and when asked what happened - i replied, "i cut it with a piece of cheese" meaning - i cut it AT THE SAME TIME as the cheese - not often i was able to be off-the-cuff-funny - and that one was by accident!

I wonder if there is a club somewhere for us to join? Possible names, Sharp Chickens 'r' us, or Foul Fowl Fighters? Hope you can relate to my sense of humor. It really hurt, but I laugh at me when stuff happens so others feel freee to laugh also. Thanks for the comment RedFeather.
