If you can plant it, why buy it?

I'm going to head out and get my very own aloe vera plant (on top of the ginger and onions that I already have). Hubby did ask if I wanted a herb garden but I dunno if we can manage that with all the holidays (I have yet to find those polymer crystals. It's annoying!)... Back in Malaysia, I used to have a huge aloe vera which was about three feet tall and had sprout flowers (which is rare for an aloe, IMHO) and my mum's garden had heaps of veg, local Malaysian herbs (kaffir lime, curry leaf plant, etc, as well as medicinal herbs to help with ailments like blood pressure and diabetes. So my big question, if you can plant it, would you and what exactly would you plant?

Yes, if I can plant it, i definitely would. i am a big gardening freak in that sense. So far, though, my experience is mainly with having a kitchen garden of vegetables and a few herbs. For example, everything from lemons, oranges, curry leaf plant, coriander, green chillies, potatoes, tomatoes, brinjals, eggplants, gourd, bitter gourd, etc. I don't have an aloe vera plant yet, but really want to get one. aloe vera straight from the plant is supposed to be excellent for health when taken internally, and externally great for skin. which medicinal herbs are there in ur mum's garden to treat diabetes? does someone in ur family have it?

Nah, no one in my family has it but it's supposed to be good for overall health too. We were given this plant by a neighbour - I only know that it's an Indian herb. If you're interested, I can ask my mum. :) My mum uses aloe veras for burns and simple facials but we have to try eating them. I'm getting my mum to bring out some chilli seeds...

meiteoh- You don't really need crystals with Aloe Vera. I found a whole pot full of them someone had thrown out, and now I have a whole balcony full of them. The flowers are beautiful, too. Planting ultimately figures out to be the things you really like. It's a very personal thing, and each plant creates its own effect. I'll plant anything, but I seem to have a tendency to plant cuttings, or plants I've saved after they've been thrown out.

Nah, the crystals are for my other plants...but yes, I know what you mean about plants and planting your favourites! I only have those few because I'm new to the weather but I think I'm beginning to want a garden of my own now. :P

I tried this last night and my computer locked up. If I could grow it... I would grow everything. 1 or 2 whatever is needed to produce viable seeds. I would have a orchard. If you could eat it I would grow it. Camptotheca accuminata is called Happy Tree or Cancer Tree. It contains alkaloids that help fight cancer. This tree might be able to cure cancer. If the medical companies don't have all of them destroyed. There are too many to list. You have had trouble finding water retaining polymers. I might have a solution. These are some brand names. SoilMoist and AgriDiamonds. You might be about to find a distributor online in Europe or better Switzerland. Sorry if I didn't remember you location.
