no actually I do not have a safety deposit box, I know they are great to have especially if you fire in the house because they do not usually burn and you can protect your important papers and stuff.

Hi,
A safety box is a place that you can keep your valuable items safe. But if thing disappeared it is not a safety box it is a steal box lol.

I don't have a safety deposit box but my mom does and my name is on it so I have stuff in there. I have my marriage license and all of our birth certificates stuff like that in there so if a fire would break out in my house I would not lose those documents.
It had to be an inside job unless another family member also had a key to the box and was on the list of people who can access it.

I don't think it was an inside job with the bank people, however, I do think it was an inside job by one of her family members. It takes 2 people to get into the safety deposit box, both of them have to have a key. One is the bank person, and the other is the owner of the safety deposit box. When I had one this was always the way it worked. One key works on the one key lock, and the banks opens the second one. If it was an inside job by bank personnel, then surely there would have been far more profitable deposit boxes to go after. Not saying pearls are worth nothing, but diamonds, cash or bonds would probably be more profitable for the thief...as opposed to pearls which have a much lower value in the black market or whatever. Nope...I think some family member, who knows her private info (or could find it & the key) was the person who did it.
I used to have one. Now I just have a secret fireproof safe. I would defy anybody to find it. When my Dad's house burnt to the ground, everything in the fireproof safe was still ok, readable, and all. (The house was old, and was hit by lightning. It went up like a tinderbox! Even the fuel oil tank exploded. So, on that basis, a home safe works good for me.)
