How much time is too much time in front of the T.V.?

I hear a lot of people saying that kids T.V. viewing should be limited to under two hours a day. It's not that I don't agree with it. I understand its merit. Actually my older kids rarely even turn on the tube. They probably watch about two hours per week. They have other intrests and enjoy reading, and playing like normal kids. My youngest however always wants the T.V. on she is nearly two, and as fast as I turn it off, she turns it back on. I think it may be because she likes the backround noise. Actually, she doesn't sit and watch it. She is just in the room with it...playing. If something pops on...I leave it on a 24 hr. preschool channel... that she enjoys, she calls for me to sit with her and talks about what she sees on the T.V. I feel it has been a good way for her to see the world outside our community, and a great conversation starter. I was wondering how other familys deal with sharing their home with a boob tube?

Both my kids love doing all sorts of things ranging from hanging wiht their friends, reading, doing artsy things, chillin on the internet etc etc AND they like watching tv too....How much is TOO much? Well when it starts to cut into life, becomes an obsession THEN its too much as far as I'm concerned..I also think that WHAT is being watched is a big factor too..My kids love movies and sitcoms etc etc but they also love educational programing which is somehting I'd never deny them so if they want to sit and watch a 5hour marathon on the History Channel I say have at it!...My daughter probably watches more educational programming than she does regular tv actually and I'm all for it...

Ahhh... the Hitler channel. I'm familiar with that. Too much holocaust, gives me indigestion. Then again I'm way too guilty of watching medical oddities on the Discovery Health Network!!! My toddler watches preschool programing, some of it has real merit. She has picked up a few Spanish words from Dora. Some of it looks like drivle to me, but I guess its not meant to stimulate MY mind. Thanks for your thoughts!
