Don't push yourself too much yet. Try to relax and do basic chords as a start. Starting with those basic major chords like, A, C, D, E, G, which doesn't really require barring, (using your forefinger to press all six strings like F, B,) It could give you a good grip of the frets as well as timing of your strums. then once you are used to the sounds and timing it made, step up and try the barre chords. While you develop callous on your finger tips, you'll noticed that you're getting better and better. Practice, pratice, practice... it makes perfect

Vampire fcy has some good advice, and that is what I have always believed, Never give up, it doesn't matter whether you learn a little or a lot, the important thing is that you never give up, and keep the faith! 'Cause remember, "the sun is shining on the other side of that mountain"!

If you really want to learn how to play the guitar and doesn't know where to start, find a guitar teacher or a kind friend that will teach you all the basics in guitar playing.
Don't be hard on yourself by trying to play difficult musical pieces at once. Start with the easy ones and practice them regularly. You'll get the hang of it. Once you've learned the basics, move to the next level.

You need to learn some chords and practice them each day. Then practice going from chord to chord. Eventually, you will be able to put them together into a song.

I guess it is just practice, practice and more practice, I wish I could play too but i have never even tried even though I hang out with great guitarists I don't have a musical bone in my body but it would be great to be able to make music.

This brings me back to my high school years. Yes, I know how you feel. I studied in an all-girls school and my friends all know how to play a guitar. It's like, gosh they're really good, will I ever get to be one? I started learning by myself then, got a few friends to teach me, just simple songs/chords for a beginner. I learned but for me it was not enough, I still cannot say I am good. But as the years passed and I got other interests, learned new friends, I said to myself I am lucky to have known/played 1 instrument. What's nice is that even if I am not good at playing the guitar, at least I know how to sing. So cheer up. If playing doesnt suit you, why dont you try singing instead? Who knows you and your friends can start a band, with you as the vocalist ('v')!

The secret is lots of practice :) i think that's the only way you can play better and even more better.
You may have the greatest guitar player as your teacher and teach you all the high level technique he knows, but if u never practice, it's all useless :)
to be honest i was like you before, i got frustrated too, all my friends learn faster than me and plays better than me, until i think maybe i'm not destined to be a guitar player, but after a while i change my mind and start to practice again. Even though i'm still not as good as my friends yet, but for sure i'm gaining improvement every time i practice.
I become more sensitive to chord progression & melody, and can play much better than the last time i can remember how i play, which is really sucks LOL.
So the key is just keep practicing, don't give up, and enjoy it, since if u don't enjoy playing guitar, the sound that you produce with your guitar will not be good even though you can play with high level technique, since it has no "soul" in it :)
