Bfreaking up...

Ok...I have decided to break up with Cold Case. I will be removing it from my "Must See TV" schedule. I have developed a policy. Once I stop caring for the characters on a show, and when I find myself struggling to muster up the interest in watching an episode that I TiVoed, opting to watch anything else but that show...it is time to break up with the show, pack up their belongings and show them the door. Cold case is that show for me now. If any of those people on that show were to be killed off or fired, I wouldn't be sad. I wouldn't miss them on the show. I don't care about their character developments as far as their personal lives on the show. And, I find myself having to entertain myself in other ways while I watch the show. Playing a game of solitare on my laptop. Even myLotting. So, it is time to bid this show a fond farewell. I do think that part of the reason it has fallen out of favor with me is because CBS routinely drops the ball during the heart of their seasons. It is forever pre-empted by some football game so, I frequently miss the last half hour or more of the show and, will frequently have to catch each episode in rerun. I try to remember to allow for the pre-empting by scheduling it to record for at least an hour longer on my TiVo but, that has grown old and tired and...I am just over it! Another show that I am coming close to losing interest in is Without A Trace. I still like it enough to continue watching it but, the cast chemistry is starting to wane for me and I am starting to lose interest in whether they all live or die on the show. So, we'll have to see if I can continue to hold onto that modicum of interest next season. If not, I might just break up with it too. Cast chemistry is big with me. Shows like Criminal Minds, NCIS, Bones, House, Supernatural, How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Scrubs, Lost, the original CSI and even BBC America's Robin Hood all have great chemistry with one another. They leave me invested in each of their characters and, to lose even one of them from the show would throw me into a tailspin of despair for that show. Not the case with Cold Case and possibly even Without a Trace and CSI: Miami. So, to Cold Case, I bid a fond farewell! How about you? Are there any shows that you might be breaking up with this season as the seasons wind to an end? Do you put as much stock in cast chemistry as I do? Or, are you able to separate yourself from it enough that, you watch for the pure enjoyment of the storylines?

I never did get into Cold Case but I know what you mean about shows just not holding your attention for whatever reason. Theres plenty of good tv out there so replace it if it bores you. Watch some more reality tv lol.

Most of the programmes that you have mentioned I have watched at some point or the other, but I do not watch them all the time. I just get fed up of them after a bit, I am the kind of person who will watch them for so long, especially the CSI's if I know there is a juicy one coming up. But apart from that I can take them or leave them, and just watch them when they happen to be on and I fancy watching a bit of it.

LOL! I have TiVo...a couple of them actually! LOL! But, if I didn't have them, I would likely have had to cut out about half or more of the shows I favor the most. Thank God for TiVo! LOL! I am pretty sick of CSI: Miami though. I hate Caruso and Procter. I just can't stand either one of them and wish they would get killed off the show. Instead, they get rid of people like Speedle and Alex. People I would trade Caruso and Procter for in a heart beat! LOL! And, considering Alex was not my favorite character on the show, that is saying a lot!

Hey! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I didn't see this until now because I never got a notification. So, they did get rid of Alex but, I can't really remember if there was a clear cut reason they got rid of her. And, she was the ME. As far as Sarah Siedle (sp) she lived but, she left the show of her own desire. And, they worked in the sort of post-traumatic stress bit into her reason for leaving after she was nearly killed by the miniature killer. But, she will be guest starring in the future so, she is gone but not forgotten and will be coming back now and again as she and Grissom are still carrying on a long distance relationship.

I agree with you regarding not caring about the characters in other shows. I disagree with cold case. The main characters in that show are secondary to me. I like to watch for the actual mystery and trying to figure out the crime. I actually don't care too much about the characters back story. Granted this is the only show I feel this way about. But also, this is the only show that I normally cry at the end. SHHHHH! Don't tell anyone! I started watching the show while I was pregnant so I thought the crying was more of a pregnancy thing. No such luck. I've been watching a bunch of the episodes I dvr'd and I cry at nearly all of the endings. I usually feel so bad for the victims and the survivors.

LOL! No worries Starr! I won't tell anyone! As long as you promise not to tell anyone that I cry at so many more shows than that! Hmmmm...Ghost Whisperer, So You Think You Can Dance (almost every contemporary routine will make me cry), House, and probably too many more to think about! LOL! And, I have never been pregnant. I am just a big old baby and everything makes me cry. Even some commercials! LOL! I tried to stay together with Cold Case based solely on the cases but, they just weren't enough for me. LOL!

I think that is a very good policy you have there, Cortjo. I do believe it is a good time for a breakup with Cold Case for you. I don't have any break ups in my forseeable future but I have certainly had them in the past. My biggest and most unbelievable break up in my life happened years ago with General Hospital. I used to record everyday while I was at work (before Tivo) and I used to get confused over which tape I could use because I started getting behind on them. I realized then that I had lost interest in the characters. I do get into character chemistry like you do. I like to have a few shows that I just watch for the mindlessness of it. But for the most part if I am not into the character chemistry I begin to lose interest.

Thank you! LOL! I have actually cut out a few shows this year for the exact same reason you cut out GH...which I still record and watch but, there are times I am thisclose to breaking up with it too... Anyway, if I have recorded a show and I keep recording new ones so that there are a couple episodes waiting for me to watch on my TiVo, and I end up choosing other shows to watch before that show, it becomes clear to me that I am just not interested enough anymore. So, I will usually break up with it. The hubby and I did that with Grey's Anatomy because we had like 5 new episodes sitting in the TiVo waiting to be watched. LOL!

I have a hard time watching Cold Case every week. i think its a good show but nothing too special. There is very little chemistry between the cast and one of the only reason I watch it is for Tracie Thoms who I'm a huge fan of. So I watch to support her but thats about it.

I liked it at first but, with the lack of cast chemistry, it has really lost too much of my interest. Which, is too bad since I love those kinds of shows. When the cast chemistry, or lack there of, makes it so hard for me to stay interested in truly interesting storylines, you know it is pretty bad. LOL!
