Do cats really understand if we love them or not?

I am just curious because our cat is bothersome. He keeps on bothering any of us when we are doing something in the house.
The kids, don't want to play him so they ignore him or sometimes raise their voice at him. The cat just stare at the kids and again did the the same thing.
I just wonder why the cat will not stop bothering us even if sometimes we don't care about him. Well, we love our pets but when we are busy doing something we don't want to spend time playing with him.
What did you do when your cat is doing this?

My cats have a habbit of letting me know when it is time to take a break and slow down and just enjoy a little down time and when they get in my way and basically demand my attention that is when I need to take a step back and relax a minute or two. I have 3 cats and I make it a point to spend time with each of them every day. Even if it is a pet or scratch in passing it is acknowledgement that I know they are there and I care enough to let them know that I know they are there.

well, I can tell that you are a pet lover. I have a friend who has 10 cats at home. I don;t know how she manage to spend time with each of them. We only have 2 cats. One is the outside cat and one is inside cat. We can nit spend too much time with them. Only just high and hello. lol.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi Bebs08, My name is Jessie and I am a second year veterinary technology student and I specialize in animal bahaviour modification. You have nothing to worry about this used to happen alot in my house too. When he begins this type of bahaviour clap your hands together loudly with a firm no! Make sure he can hear it really well. Also this is going to give him a little fright. No matter how much he begs or meows do not pet him or give him attention. Cats do not really respond well to yelling and shooing away. Try this and if it does not work email me at powelljessie@gmail.com and I would be glad to offer more advice.

Hi jpowell... thanks for your tips. My husband keeps on yelling when he is busy then the cat keeps on bothering him.
Thanks for your advice. We love our cat but sometimes it irritates us when he keeps on bothering.
We will try your suggestion.
Thanks for the reply.

I think he is bothering you because he wants your attention. He meows and stuff to get your attention to pet him or play with him. My cat does the same thing then when I pet her or something she stops.

Thanks for the reply. My husband doesn't want the cat sitting on his lap while he is doing something in the computer. The cat always make his way to jump up on his lap. Sometimes the cat feels unwanted because he is not given the attention that he needs but that happens only when we were busy. We played with him at times.
