I have always heard that poets cannot make any money. I hope that you all enjoy reading my writings. Are We Willing In a world of sin and sorrow, the master calls us in. Will we listen and heed to his call? The fields are full and the harvest is ready. To the human eye God's field looks like a speck in the dust. To God that speck is a major field waiting to be tilled. After the tilling is over, the sowing must be done. Will we be willing to work for him? As the days are long, help us to look at the things we will gain, if we focus on you. Reading your word daily, your blessings will over flow. Help me to be worthy of your love. Your direction we will know, as we pray on our knees. May the speck never die out, until you come again. I except your call Lord, for you are in the mist.

I think if you're looking to profit from your writing, you should check out winningwriters.com, which in my opinion is the best, most legit place to start looking for free writing competitions. The next place would be pw.org (poets and writers) which also lists writing competitions from reputable organizations and universities, but you have to be willing to pay the reading/contest fees. beautiful poem, by the way :)

This is a contest that I would love to win, but I need a lot of people to write a poem on www.poetry.com and add my name so that it can be counted. I will thank you in advance for writing a beautiful poem. May God bless you in love, life and an abundance of money. Sincerely, Tamara Lesley www.spiritual-harmony.com

Here is a poem that I wrote to my Internal Specialist, she always has a smile on her face and a way that seems to make you feel better just by visiting her. Her name is Dr. Ingrid Brown in Centerville, Ohio. May Summer send love your way and the Showers cry your tears. May the Sun express your Happiness, and the Moon erase your fears. May each smile be passed onto the next, for the beauty in your smile surpasses all the rest.

Writing poetry is one of the most rewarding feilds of writing and the most difficult to make any money with. Some poets go their whole lives without any recognition whatsoever. I have been a fortunate poet and I have had many poems published in anthologies and a few local publications as well. However I never recieved any money for any of this. I have recently decided to self publish my book of poetry (the link is on my profile) using lulu.com. It can be difficult to find a publisher who is willing to publish poetry and so self publishing can be a viable option.

The reason is simple.Money by its very nature is a material aspect. To make money you need to have something tangible to sell. This very same reason is why a Painting sells in millions while a poem has not many takers.A picture speaks a thousand words or atleast is easier to remember than the words that form a poem.

You won't hit the best seller's list or make a fortune but you can receive payment for publishing your poetry. If you really want to do this, stay away from scam sites that will publish anything regardless of the quality and then ask you spend tons of money buying their products. It has been my experience that up scale literary magazines are the best source for income but be advised that the competition for publication is fierce and less than one percent of poets submitting their work for consideration are accepted.
