I just went through my tax return carefully and have just learned I am ineligible for an economic stimulus check!!! WTF? Bush kept raving how this was going to help the economy and I saw online the schedule for payments. I was excited--I read how it was based on the last two digits of your social and I'm thinking, great! mine are low. Well, I called my bank--nothing's there. I went to www.irs.gov and started checking around. They have a direct link to calculate when your payment's coming. I started the information and then hit calculate, only to read: I didn't make enough income to qualify??? I had some very high business expenses last year...and I put a LOT back into the economy last year (bought a car, two business trips, lots of supplies). Some f-ing brilliant idea...I am SO p1ssed off right now I could scream!

He made the announcement just a bit too late to help the economy, which is now completely flat (so would that be Bush's fault or Bernacke's?). This is something that (if I recall), he announced in February. He should have temporarily suspended the gas tax monthes ago, or had the checks ready...no one I've talked to has gotten one yet. My father (who stays out of talking politics) said basically BOTH Bush's got us into wars in Iraq that we DIDN'T need to be in and BOTH put us into a recession! He even admitted that Clinton was smart for not getting us involved in every little thing around the world--he never admitted that before!
I can understand the BIG wars that the US has been involved with: the Revolutionary War (to gain our freedom); the Civil War (to help unite the country); World War I and World War II(I'm not great on my history, but if I recall, both were fighting German influence or domination). Those were NECESSARY wars. Korea...Vietnam...Desert Storm...Operation Freedom...why were we involved in these countries? Last I heard, Korea is more of a threat now than Iraq. (shaking my head in disgust). Maybe Bush has a board seat waiting for him when he's no longer President at Blackwater (they seem to be prospering quite well)?

Oddly enough my mother was not eligble for a check either and I think she should have been. She makes next to nothing compared to a lot of people and she still won't recieve a check because she didn't make enough. Isn't the point to help stimulate the economy? I mean if we had more money we'd actually spend it.

My point exactly! I put a lot into the economy last year, but I guess that didn't count. And the worst part? Because I'm self employed, I had to PAY taxes for the first time ever! ARGH!

My boyfriend and I both made enough to get back $300 each, or so the IRS website says. He was supposed to get his check May 02, and it still has yet to arrive in the bank. I'm a little pissed about this as well, because we were excited that we were getting some extra cash, but now I'm just beginning to believe that we're not getting anything at all.

Well, at least you're scheduled to get SOMETHING...according to their stupid rules, I (like your boyfriend) was due to get one during the first batch of checks..I'm now getting sh1t! I needed that money for other things...sheesh!
I think that Bush opened his mouth, made a statement that took everyone's minds off the other debacles he's created in this country without figuring out how to pay for it! The rich should be putting the money into the economy first (lead by example, ya know?), but all they're doing is buying up what us desperate folks are selling!
