Who is right - me or his parents?

I need your opinion about an issue.
He is my boyfriend (not yet married), but we've been together for 5 years.
Two years ago he bought an apartment (he'll be paying the loan for 15 years). His parents gave him part of the money - $35,000 to be precise.
His father is a carpenter and an engineer (unemployed for 10 years now, he just doesn't want to get a job), and he has made most of our furniture.
About 6 months ago we decided to redo the kitchen (at the same time his parents wanted to redo theirs). His father said he would make THE BEST KITCHEN for me (better than the ones in the magazines). When we went to choose the design for my kitchen counter I liked a pattern that he didn't like. He told me "You keep quiet, I'll do your kitchen and I don't need your opinion."
I got really angry, and smashed the new door he had made for us with a baseball bat (which I know was a stupid thing to do). I made my boyfriend take his tools back, and both his parents haven't been over since. No one is doing anything to make up, and just thinking about them makes me sick.
I'll be thankful for all advice and thought on the matter.
