Seeking some advise : to let go or not to let go of the job..

Hi, I've been working in the same job for almost three years now and I still haven't given a chance to move up. I am not happy with this job (I've never been happy with it) from the very beginning. Recently I applied for a new position and I really want that. But i feel there would be some issues coming up regarding it so I'm not expecting too much of it. What's boggling in my mind now is whether to resign and try my luck with a better career or stay here and just think of my benefits as a long time employee? because as we all know, it's hard to seek your dream job these days so other people say to stick with it because it's better than nothing.

try to think about it. in today's situation its really hard to find job but if you are not happy with it then why stay? life is too short to be unhappy. Goodluck

i say..both..stay and explore...you can do both..i mean while still looking for new job...stay and earn money...when you already found a new job then leave the company...Good luck!happy job hunting.

Hi thanks for the response. You're right and that's what I'm doing now or should I say, that's the reason why I'm still here because somehow I'm still earning instead of nothing. I hope that's easy. The thing is I'm starting to feel bitterness for this job. If you know the feeling of trying to accept what's not acceptable that's how I feel. It's like trying to swallow what you can't.

hi, subha12 is right not to say thats the wise move. People are more marketable if they are still employed. If you are unemployed and apply for a job, it might give a negative impression as to why you resign or maybe you were dismissed. So hang in there until the perfect job comes along. And being happy can be also a state f mind or what they say mind over matter, try making friends-real friends you can hang-out with. You can also treat yourself once in a while to shake off sadness

If given the chance that I find the job that I like I would resign no matter how long have you stayed in that job. Why would you cherished anything that you said is making you unhappy. Why could you not choose the one that makes you happy. Tenure can be acquired with time you don;t need to worry. What you must worry is your growth in that company you like not the tenure of your job. I see no reason why you should stay there just for the benefits.

Why be in a job in which u r not happy working, i hope rather than at home, we spend a lot of time in our work place out of the 24 hours and it becomes very important that u r at least satisfied with ur job if not love it, but an unhappy work place is goin to spoil ur mood each and everyday...better come out when u get another suitable job (also remember, dont expect everything to be good and fair as u like in the new job too, there are some pros and cons in every job) Congratulations for ur new job!

Personally I wouldn't resign before having something else to move to. Unemployment makes finding a job really hard, particularly if you wanted a reference from your current employer. They could easily say that you resigned because you were unhappy which would set alarm bells off for any prospective employer. I say stick with it but apply to as many jobs as you are qualified to do and interested in. You might get offered something that would at least be a change of scenery and pace or you might find your dream job isn't what you thought it would be. Maybe speak to your employer and ask them for new roles and responsibilities? Whatever you decide to do just remember to keep smiling; afterall its only a job and theres far more important things in life!

I already applied for another position but that's the problem I'm talking about. I already spoke to my manager and she wouldn't let me go because there's lack of employee going on to the dept. where I am. And that's one of the many reasons why I am bitter of the job. I feel like they don't want us to have career growth and in my eyes they're a bunch of selfish people.
