On May 12th there was a very serious earthquake disaster happened to many provinces in China. We are so sad to see those photos and videos from TV and net.
I think Chinese people become much more united than before. Many people try to do something to help for those people. I am from Guangzhou and the earthquake didn't affect here. Today I learned that Guangzhou people donated 25 tons of blood. There are always so many people to wait for donating the blood. In fact people in other places are doing the same thing. We donate money, products, blood etc.
From my family, we already donate money from yesterday, today and tomorrow. So I think it's also the same for other families. Many people are eager to give aids. Let's rebuild our home together!
I love China

Hi youless! I have seen that in the news. I am really sorry to hear such thing happening to your country and I hope and I am sure your country will overcome this. I do hope and pray that for all the Chinese families that were directly affected, may they recover soon. I have seen in the news that your government has been doing great in helping your countrymen and so many nations have offered assistance too.
Take Care and God Bless! Happy Mylotting!

That's a lot of blood. It is great how people will rally together in the event of disaster. I have noticed that here in the U.S. too after 9/11 and Katrina. People can surprise you at times. If there is anything good that comes out of these tragedies this has got to be it. It brings out the generous, kind spirit in people.

I saw about this in the news... and i feel for those who are affected by the earthquake... we experienced the same thing in 1991 just before the eruption of Mount Pinatubo... and a lot of help came... at times like this... the whole world should be united... and misunderstandings should be left behind... we all need to give our support and prayers to those who are victims...
My husband will be going to Tianjin tonight... to teach in a University... and he will witness everything first hand...

I have been feeling so sad these days ever since May 12th, when I heard and read the news about the earthquake that has already caused so many deaths. Each time when I obtain the news from different channels, I cannot help weeping and sobbing. Yesterday afternoon our college and school were organized to donate money to the help support the people in Sichuan. All of us teachers and students donated money, whether small or big. It shows our love to them. I do hope that more and more people buried under the fallen houses will be able to be saved as soon as possible. Let's hope for the best and may the people who suffer from the earthquake be blessed.

I think that in times of disaster people become much more unified. They do things for the people who are suffering because they would love to have the same care themselves. It is a good feeling to have a chance to help others.

It is very very ... sad to learn from the cctv and youtube that there were over 30 thousand of people were killed in the earthquake occurred in Sichuan province in your country recently. I express great sympathy for those who had lost their loved ones in the dreadful disaster. Here the government, private sectors and the public are raising relief funds to help the unfortunate victims. I am collecting donation from the members of my family and relatives and going to send the donation through bank to the authority concerned. I hope through this accumulated effort we could be able to give some assistance to the unfortunate sufferers. I am quite relieved to see there are so many enthusiastic and caring people from all over the world to offer their helping hands to those who need help in the tragic scenes. Hoping to see they could rebuild their home as soon as possible.

Hey youless. Frankly speaking, I dare not to see those photos. I think it's too much for me. I kept being told news about that earthquake even though I don't see them myself. That's really a disaster. Students donated money in the 4 campus of our university. It's said that all together we donated 2 million something. I am not sure. I just hope that we can do something to help. Anyway I think we can go through this.

It is really a big shock when heard about the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Sichuan ,China on afternoon of Monday 12-5-2008. Very sad to see so many school children lost their life to this earthquake. My cousin is working at Guangzhou, initially when my aunt knew about this earthquake she's so worry cos cant get hold of her son . Luckily, later that day my cousin called his mom informed that he's safe as Guangzhou is not in the earthquake area. There is also a group of Malaysia tourist of 26 people mostly are elderly people lost contact since one of the member of the group sent an sms to her mom here in Malaysia then no more news from this group of tourist since then . God bless cos while replying this discussion, I read from a local English newspaper - The Star that this group of tourist is safe but stranded at Maoxian , which is about 150km from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan but Maoxian is still inaccessible unless by foot.
There are 2 newspaper in Malaysia are holding a Fundraising to give our little contribution to the victim of the Sichuan Earthquake and me too have give my little contribution in response to this event and hope we could be of help to the victim in need.
May God Bless all family and victim of this earthquake and the people of China and that they will stand united and be strong.

Hi, I am in Australia and was just telling my friend at work today how sad it is. It is so sad that some towns are only just getting the army coming in to help now.
To think that people may have been lying injured in rubble for days, some not surviving that may have survived if they could have been rescued sooner. It is so sad.
There is a story from the book "The Good Woman of China", about the aftermath of the terrible earthquake that happened outside of Tianjin in China. A similar thing happened - people were injured and their loved ones couldn't help them or rescue them, and help didn't arrive for a few days, it is a really awful thing to happen. I think reading that story makes me feel for the people suffering in this disaster even more than If I had just seen all the reports on the news.
I have relatives in China, whom, thankfully, are in a different province/town,Nanjing, but whenever I hear of something like this, it always worries me that they are ok. I know it must be terrible for the 1000's that are affected, we just can't imagine what they must be going through.
I wish you all well. Also I wish the people from Burma well, and I hope their government will help it's people and let others help. There have been 2 awful disasters so close together.
I wish you luck in rebuilding the home and rescuing all the injured people still alive.
