I am curious as to how you guys read. It seems I can never find a comfortable position to sit/lay in while I read. I end up getting a backache or my shoulders hurt. How do you read? Do you have a special place where you are more comfortable reading? Or a particular piece of furniture where you like to read? Like a favorite chair or something.
Also, do you enjoying reading outdoors? Like on the deck, at the beach or at a park. Sometimes when the weather is nice I will read outside.

We've never had a pool (well not one big enough to put a raft in), so I've never done that. I always see people in movies or on TV, though, on a raft reading in the pool. It seems like it would be really relaxing. It'd be a nice way to spend a summer day.

Me either till my neighbors kids grew up and he sold me his for $20 what a good deal. The liner costs about $120 each year but it is well worth it. Its just an above ground pool thats about 4 feet deep but its very wide so my raft can float along while i read. My hubby even built the kids a waterslide into the pool.

Hi! I always like to read while lying down. That because I usually read before I go to sleep. Otherwise I read while standing up.^_^ What I mean is I usually read the enws papers standing up. I dont know why. Its jsut more comfortable that way. With the paperbacks or any books I read them before going to bed. Its more relaxing that way and I can get to be engrossed more in the book. If my eyes are starting to get droopy or maybe Im near falling asleep well, I just put down the book beside my pillow then I sleep. When I wake up the enxt mornign I continue the book where I left off. I just read a few more pages or another full chapter before I leave my bed and get out of my room.^_^

Generally i lie down when i am reading something. I normally take two soft pillows so that my neck doesnt hurt. I lie on my back and keep my legs straight while reading. If i am outside i prefer to choose a comfortable chair as i have back problems. I prefer not to read while travelling as it becomes very inconvenient.

I usually read sitting in my recliner. I tilt it half way back and relax. Sometimes I fall asleep I get so relaxed. I sometimes read while in bed too. A few pillows to prop up on and one to hold the book. I like to read and I carry a book with me almost everywhere. I have gotten so engrossed in a book at the doctors office they have to call me a couple of times before I even hear them.

I love to read before I go to bed. It helps me unwind fmr a stressful day and lets my thoughts focus on something else instead of what I haven't got done.
So I am usually propped up in bed, with my favorite jammies, pillows behind me, covers pulled up and usually I have my relaxation CD playing soft nature sounds in the background.
If the weather is nice I like to sit in my backyard facing my woods and read in the shade.

I like reading on my bed. It is the most comfortable place for me, and I am happy to read a book that I love the whole night without interuption, although I will feel bad the next day. That kind of experience is a happy memory for me. And that is why I wore galsses when I was a little girl.
I don't like reading outdoors, because there is no chair more comfortable than bed and the sun always make my eyes hurt. I like to walk in the sun rather than sit.

I like to read in bed, too. I don't think I've ever spent the entire night reading without going to bed. I have stayed up really late, like maybe 4 o'clock in the morning, but never not slept at all.
When I was a kid and would read outside, I'd sit under a nice shadey tree. That way it would keep me cool and keep the sun from bothering me.

I have a few places and positions that I read in. Most of the time you can find me reading on the bus while I'm commuting to and from work or in the car with my dad or boyfriend. Other times I will read either laying down on the bed propped up by my elbow or sitting upright cross legged. Sometimes my back will start to hurt sitting upright so I will move backwards so my back is against the wall.

I love to read so I can lay down or sit up anywhere to read. But my favourite spot to read is in my livingroom and after you see the picture I am going to post, you will understand why it is my favourite place. You can't see, but I have a fireplace on the left side of the picture so I like to have it on when I am sitting there reading. I live in a basement suite and since it is always cold down here, I have the fireplace going in the evenings when I am sitting there reading, even though it is summer. I just love it and I spend a lot of my time in this room. I also read while laying in bed and I use about 4 pillows to prop myself up.

Thanks for the compliment on my livingroom. I sat in it this morning for about 2 hours reading and doing some crosswords. I wasn't reading a book, but the newspaper. Here is a picture of my TV room and you can see behind it is my livingroom and in this picture you can see the fireplace. You can also see the desk that I now have my computer on. When these pictures were taken we didn't hadn't finished moving in yet. We have only lived here since June 1st.

Your living room is awesome!
I've actually never lived anywhere with a fireplace, so I've never just lounged around and read around one.
I can pretty much read anywhere, too. Though, I guess the better the book is the easier it is to read it anywhere. If a book isn't as interesting, I have a hard time reading it anywhere.

I usually read lying on my bed. I also read sitting on a chair.
I don't prefer reading in public places. I am usually distracted by the surrounding in those places that's why I would rather choose reading indoors.

I usually read sitting up, the only time that I get to read at the minute is when I am having my meals, I always pick my book up while I am eating so it is easier to sit up!!
I used to love to read outside when the weather is good, I am hoping that the weather will be good this summer so that maybe I can get outside and have a bit more time to read.

I like to read in different positions. Sometimes i lie on my stomach, sit in a chair, lay by the pool or just sit on the floor in my sitting room. My favorite place to read is in the gardens, it's so peaceful there, just hearing the sound of nature around you, it's beautiful. I love it!

If I am reading in bed, I like to start sitting up in bed on my bottom with my legs streched out. If I am reading for a long time in bed I do like to turn over onto my side, normally my right side, as my btm does get sore sometimes.
If i am reading downstairs I like to curl up in the chair and tuck my feet under my bottom.
I do like to read in the garden, don't get much time to read in the garden as the children are normally out there nad wanting me to play with them or do the gardening.
I wish I had more time to read

Typically I will lay on my back with pillows under my feet and if my back starts hurting I take my big long body pillow and put it between my knees and roll over on my side. But if I do the latter...I typically end up falling asleep :P I also like reading to my 6 year old daughter with her sitting right next to me and reading the words right along side me...but that's when we sit on the couch with my feet up on the coffee table and her sitting next to me in a ball on the couch.
I love to read everywhere...except for moving vehicles. I like reading outside even when it's snowing. Once, I grabbed a comforter, a nice warm cup of tea, my favorite book, and went outside to sit on my couch (that I had on the balcony) and watch the snow fall down around me while I read and stayed warm! And I even fell asleep out there!!! So yeah, I like to read all over...indoors, outdoors, on the couch, in my bed, feet up, or laying on my side.

I can't really read in moving vehicles, either. It makes me dizzy.
When I read to my little nieces and nephews, I usually sit cross legged on the floor with them on my lap, so they can see the pictures and words. That's when they're still kind of little, but with the older ones we sit on the couch next to eachother usually.
Brrrr! I don't like cold weather and being out in the snow, so I don't think I could go outside in the winter and read. I love to see the snow fall outside through the window, but being out in it isn't my thing. It sounds like it was really relaxing and peaceful for you, though.

Reading in a moving vehicle (even airplanes) makes me feel extremely sick so I'm glad I'm not the only one that has this problem. I got hurt in the Army so I can't sit on the floor with my daughter even though I would like to be able to. There are 5 kids in my house and the 2 youngest like to be read to and sometimes there just isn't enough room on the couch so we just go sit in my room with them on either side of me on my bed.
I typically don't fall asleep outside (especially in the Winter) but just that once I was so comfortable. :D Other than on the couch or floor with your nieces or nephews, where are some other places you like to read? I mean where do you go outside when it's warm? Do you do it as you tan or do you try to find a nice shady, warm place to read (like under a tree at a park)?

I am not much of an outdoors person. I don't really like being out in the sun (I burn easily) so it's usually under a shade tree when I read outdoors. I don't do it as much now that I'm older, it was more so when I was a kids. My sister enjoys being out in the sun, so I will once in a while read while laying out in the sun, but I don't enjoy that as much.

Oh I love to read! Everything! But I'm a recliner person. I have a lazy-boy recliner in my livingroon and my bedroom with good reading lamps near both.I cant' read laying down in any position, my body won't let me. I have degenerative arthritis down the full length of my entire spine and joint disease so I must be very careful of body position for any activity that I participate in. I also have rocking chairs on my front porch for when the weather is nice so I read out there, and I have a nice padded patio swing on my patio out back so I read out there when it is nice outside. That's always lovely with a cool breeze and the birds chirping, maybe an occasional butterfly going by. We have hummingbird feeders out so they are always buzzing up to feed. I've a nice lilac bush close to the back patio too and it's in full bloom right now; so, back patio takes my vote for right now.

Well, first off, I have to stay in my wheelchair if I want to move around while reading. I'm lucky because my chair reclines and I can put myself in a comfortable position pretty easily with no help. This wasn't always the case, and I had to go around bothering people to reposition me every 15 minutes or so. I like reading outdoors, or especially on busses.

I'm glad you can now get yourself comfortable. I know I change position a lot while I read, so it would be frustrating needing to find someone to help me change spots. I haven't read on a bus in a long time. I live in a rural area, so we don't have public transportation around here.

I generally read curled up in an overstuffed easy chair, or laying on the couch. Or in the bath - I often take a bubble bath just to read because it is so comfortable. I also enjoy reading in the sun on a deck chair, or on a blanket spread out over the grass or the sand at the beach. I find it more distracting to read outside unless I can find a quiet spot (rarely).

I've never read in the bath. Maybe I'm just too klutzy and afraid I'll drop the book in the water. haha. When we were kids, some of my siblings and I would spread a blanket outside and read. There really aren't a lot of noise where I live, so it's not too hard to find a quiet spot outside.

Any position.
I don't have a favorite position because I find all positions uncomfortable after some time.
Tell me if you find a really great position!

I don't like reading outside as I can never find anywhere comfortable enough and shady enough to sit and read. I prefer to read a book when I am seated in a comfortable chair indoors. I can lie on my bed and read for a long time, if I get the pillows in the right position, but it is never totally satisfactory as I seem to have to move every time I turn the page.

I like to lay on my stomach on my bed, but that gets uncomfortable. I guess I usually lay on my side reading the most. My favorite used to be reading on the bus or in class when I was in school. I don't read outside much, but as long as the wind isn't blowing the pages I love it.
