My first hamster Joshua was lovely. You could put him on your head, let him run around the bed, and have a lot of fun with him. Once he died I got a new hamster, unnamed until we got home. In the few minutes it took to drive back from the pet shop, he had nibbled its way out of the box. So it was called Nibbles. But no matter how hard I tried, it bit me every time I went near it. Then I got my third hamster Poppy, and she doesn't always bite, but is very nervy and struggles when you pick her up.
I don't know if I'll bother with a fourth.
Has anyone else had the same experience?? Or similar?

I don't think so. My first hamster was awesome, but I remember my friend had a very bad experience with her first hamster.
My first hamster was named Armani. I didn't buy him from the petstore actually, I found him outside my door. When he saw me, he followed me wherever I went. I couldn't bear to let him out in the wild so I bought a cage and raised him. He was a very smart hamster! We didn't toilet-train him but he always knew how to use the same potty corner.
We could let him run in the balcony. When he was tired, he could climb back into his cage himself. We placed some containers as steps for him.
I really missed him when he had to go. At least, I know I've given him a good life.

You had a *hamster* called Poppy?! Weird ... And you used to wear your hamster on your head?! Weirder .....
:-) :-)
I've only ever had two hamsters, and I'm afraid I thought they were very dull. They were Russian hamsters so very small and very cute, and I gave them Russian names. So they were Boris and Victor. They lived in the bathroom as it was the only room of the house that we could keep the cats out of!
