I know a lot of people are still waiting for their stimulus check here in the U.S.
I just saw this on yahoo news - the IRS messed up big time and as many as 15,000 checks may have been sent to the wrong place!

This is so incredibly moronic for words...since I'm not eligible for the stimulus check as I'm on "plain" SSI I can't get it..sure could use it though, but I feel sorry for anyone who was waiting for it and now find out about this fine mess

I thought everyone rated it, even if your earnings were non-taxable?

That would be horrible! We didn't do direct deposit ours will come as a paper check that won't even be mailed out until June 20th so it shouldn't affect us unless they mess up again!

I have forwarded this to my husband. I'm not American, but being married to one, we qualify for twelve-hundred dollars. We are wondering where ours went, and we hope that this is not the case with ours. We hope it will get here very soon.

I hope yours isn't involved in the mixup. Normally this kind of thing is very safe, but even a computer can mess things up if incorrect program or data is input.

What a bunch of losers they are. Shame on them. I wonder if they are going to fine themselves like they fine working taxpayers for mistakes made. HA!!!

This is a government agency and that mistake should not have been made. Even if one person made the error someone else should have picked up on it before all those checks were disbursed. This is just my opinion.

I imagine it could have been something as simple as a wrong keystroke. I don't know how you can QA something like that.
I'm not excusing anyone, but no one is infallible.

Well I don't think name-calling is going to get anyone their money any time sooner. And I doubt it was 'they' - more likely one person that made a major error.
Regardless, it's still a mess and I wouldn't want to be in the middle of it when hards start rolling.

OMG! I saw a brief news cast about that the other day! Can you believe it?! Actually, to tell you the truth... it doesn't surprise me at all! Sometimes the U.S. government is sooo disorganized and can't seem to get something so simple straight. If they were an actual real business who had to give good customer service in order to get their consumers to keep coming back to their establishment, they would fail BIG time. Don't you agree? I wonder how they are going to fix this one. We, of course, are still waiting for our check. What about you?

I'm still waiting on mine because I filed my taxes late. I don't usually mess with the April 15th deadline since I get e refund.
Why is it everyone expects all government workers to be perfect? They are people, just like everyone else.
I agree, this was a major screw up and someone needs to pay, but it sorta bothers me when something like this happens and everyone bad mouths all government workers.

Sorry if I made it seem like I was putting down ALL government workers... I did not mean it to sound that way. I just get so frustrated sometimes by the few. And, really, I was not trying to put down the workers themselves. I was mainly referring to the system as a whole. My ex-huband was in the military (Navy) and I can not tell you how many times his paycheck got messed up. Also, he was married previously before me and the child his ex-wife and him had together ended up not even being his! So, up until this day, the government still has the child that was never his in the first place on his record as being his child. He has tried to get him taken off so many times to no avail. The kid must be about 18 by now!
We just got our stimulus check by the way. I hope it is ours! LoL! I guess we better check to make sure that it isn't someone elses check.

Yea, no kidding. Since they told everyone when to expect their check, some no doubt used money on hand for other things and needed this check.
That's why I never spend anything until I have the money in hand.

That's a good question, and I'm sure it won't be easy. You know that people who got the money in error aren't going to want to give it up, but they will have to.
What a mess ...

oh bother! I wonder if that is what happened to "ours" the last time around! we never did see anything those few years ago.
as it is we are slated for tomorrow but when I use the "where is my stimulus payment" calculator thingy it says that it does not have any information on it.
the link is not loading for me... what will become of the money sent to the wrong places - won't those people have to trade back any excess towards the person it ought to have gone to?

The link was for a very short video, only a few seconds.
It just said that due to a computer error, all those deposits were made to wrong accounts or banks or somesuch.
I'm sure that everyone that received one that wasn't theirs will have it recouped by the IRS. I don't think they'll be involved with getting it to the right person.

Actually they revised that figure to 1,500 butt 350,000 checks were sent out and the $300 per child credit was forgotten. Oops, the IRS is sending out letters (again) to acknowledge the mistake and the extra money should be out by July.
I'm glad I got mine in the right account yesterday and I don't have any kids to claim. Whew!

Oh wow, that's terrible. I guess they don't know what they're doing unless it's for regular tax refunds. They probably hired extra workers to deal with this out of the ordinary stuff, and boy, it didn't pay out well did it.

OMG! Really? My hubby will not gonna like it. He has been waiting for it since last week. His accountant told him that the money will come on 9th of May and until now it hasn't come yet. He kept on checking his bank account because his refund was sent directly to it. And he is sure that the rebate will go there too. But as I have said, it's not in there till now. Oh well, what can we do.

It's definitely a mess. I'm not sure what the plan is to get the money to the right places, but I'm sure it will take a bit of time to straighten out.

We got ours on the 9th of May, and it came direct deposit, because thats how we filed our taxes. I heard that they are going by the last two numbers of your s.s. number, whoever's name is on your taxes first. Ours has my husbands name on it first and his last two numbers are 73. And we didn't get the full amount we were expecting, it was less, somehow they figure what your income was and they go by that. So don't be surprised if you don't get what you were thinking. We thought we'd be getting the 1200.00 for a couple, but nope it was less than that.

Yep, I didnt get mine and i had direct deposit and now i have to wait till july because of my soc number . This messed up a lot of things for my house hold . Also, My fiances was 3 weeks delayed . Sucks that they dont care they screwed ya over.

Why is it you think no one cares? And do you think someone intentionally 'screwed you over'?
The government didn't have to give this stimulus check to anyone. I would think most people would be happy to get it at all, even if it is a bit later than they expected.
If you had the money spent before it even arrived, that is no one's fault but your own.

I am still waiting for my stimulous check also. It is already spent before it gets here but we need it really bad right now with the high prices of everything these days. I sure hope they did not send my check to the wrong place. We have waited long enough to get it already and we really need it. I am going to check out the website you gave to us and see what the heck is going on. Thanks.

I'm still waiting on mine. I don't know if they sent it to the wrong place or what. I don't have direct deposit and I think that's what it's affecting mostly. My boyfriend got his, but he does have direct deposit. It would just be my luck that it got messed up. Since I do need the money for bills. Guess that's what happens when you expect something. However you'd think that the government wouldn't make such a big mistake. And then on top of the stimulus checks they are not sending out the child money either. That's crazy. You got it right. Someone is in BIG Trouble...
