What an awesome dress which you have the privilage of wearing! The clothes of yesteryear are so striking. Although, I can imagine that it will be quite hot in the summer months. When I think about what the ladies of previous years had to wear as compared to today, I really have a great respect for them....and to think, their chores were much more physical and without the luxuries of today!

i know what you mean, after taking 20 minutes to put that outfit on, i realized what these women must of felt like. you should see what i have to wear under that. there are these underwear things that are like capree pants then a long cotton mightgown kind of over that, then a courset over that, then another shirt which is a corset cover. then my hoop skirt, then another cotton puffy skirt over the hoop skirt and then my dress over all of that. it's crazy all the layers.

Huh! Awww, don't you look cute! I like the hat, too.
What living history museum will you be working at? I adore that stuff.
My fondest wish would be to work permanently for Colonial Williamsburg, or in the Jamestown Settlement.
I've done so much Medieval Resoration and English Civil War that it's coming out of my ears. I'd much prefer Vitorian, any day.
Have fun!!!!!!!! (I'm soooo jealous.) :)

i'm working in canada at a place called upper canada village. it's along the st laurence river. the old 1800 houese were moved there from around the area. in 1958 a huge area was flooded (perpously) during a hydro project. lots of villages were lost. most of our houses were from the lost villages

I worked at similar place, but our year of choice was 1914. I had a dress somewhat similar to that one, only the skirt wasn't so full. It's an awsome dress. Thanks for posting the picture for all of us to see.

They had such beautiful clothes back then! I certainly wouldn't want to wear them in the summertime--I don't know how they didn't die of heat exhaustion--but they certainly were beautiful, even the ones make from sacks.
My mom remembers back in the 30's her mother cutting down some of her aunt's dresses so she could have something that wasn't threadbare. They used everything back then!
I hope you don't get too hot and enjoy the dress!

Oh yeah, that dress looks really pretty, but I'm sure it'll be murder to wear when it's warm outside. Ick. You poor thing, but you look so nice! What an interesting work uniform, though. Thanks for sharing it with us.
