If you have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, what type of doctor was it that first diagnosed you (general practitioner, psychologist, etc..)? What were you diagnosed with? What were the symptoms that you were experiencing, which made you seek medical help in the first place?

I was diagnosed with depression and GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) by a therapist I was seeing during a marriage counselling stint. I then visited my doctor who confirmed it. I would really labor to do simple things like call friends to go out. I would get in a panic and sick to my stomach at the thought of talking to someone I've known for years. I ended up on Lexapro and it has been great for me. Been on it a little over a year now.

Oooh... I don't like Lexapro. It makes my hubby cranky and angry for no reason. I told his doctor if he left him on it that hubby could move in with him. lol They changed his med that day. hmmm... can't imagine why lol

LOL...the only side effect I've had on it is insomnia and the occassional horrific nightmare when I do sleep. I write horror fiction, so the nightmares are actually a good creative spark....LOL

My husband has been diagnosed with Severe Social Anxiety. He suffered with it for years but our family doctor at the time would not diagnose it and said it was all in his head or because of current stressful situations and he should get over it. When it finally grew into serious depression as well we sought out a psychiatrist. That was who finally diagnosed him with 4 separate anxiety and depression related disorders. It wasn't until then that anyone took him seriously or he recieved any sort of treatment for them. The social anxiety started at a young age. He always thought people were talking about him or thinking negatively about him. Then as he got older he could not even go into a grocery store. Eventually not even into a convenience store if there was another car in the lot. At it's worst he began not leaving the house. Right now when we go to the doctor he cannot go into the waiting room, I wait until they call him and then I go get him from the car. He speeds right through the waiting room and into the office. He won't go for walks and seldom even sits outside unless there is almost nobody around. The meds are keeping it from getting worse but so far it is not getting much better either.

I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder, but the best part is i never really went to a doc. I treated in myself, i was facing symptoms like sweating, thirst, shivery, fear and heart pounding. I never ever took any phil and never really worried about it.I know for sure now that the panic attacks are harmless and you dont have to worry , i really would like you suggest you a site for that which i have developed how i cured that disorder , you can check it by visiting my profile.

My psychiatrist was the one that diagnosed me. Although, I don't believe I need any 'professional' opinions to do that. Because I was a mess in high school. And I'm still a mess now. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I was on two different types of medication and I hated it. The only thing they made me was jittery and I also gained weight pretty quickly. The reason I had to go talk to someone was because I wouldn't go to school.

It was just mt GP that diagnosed me with acute anxiety, I went to my doctor because it came on for no apparent reason, I had no stress in my life and no problems of any sort. My symptoms were heart racing, panicking to get away from where ever I was and constant anxiety, which was unbearable.
