I have a very important question that I need an answer to

I have raised this question in various discussions over the last few months and have never received a response. I welcome responses from both religious and non-religious poeple. This has bothered me for some time and I want some closure...I will use the catholic church as an example as it is the one I am most familiar with and the one I was brought up as, although I am non-practising due to the atrocities I see happening everyday with religion. One such atrocity is this....The catholic church is one of the richest outfits in the world and the pope is one of the richest men in the world. How is this possible??? I thought religion was supposed to be caring and about helping others and loving fellow man??? Than why is all the money that the church has being held in banks (who knows where) and is used for building more churches and temples????? There are millions of starving and suffering people in the world, why is this money not going to help them??? The church should be the poorest "company" for lack of a better word in the world.....If God if truly caring, he would lead his people to worship in a field with no roof becuase he should not care about fancy temples with all hte suffering in the world....many peopel have to live in open fields, so why not worship once a week in one???? There should be no churches, if God was caring, that money would be used to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless not build fancy temples!!! This is one big problem I ahve with organized religion.....all the religious people will go to a warm, cozy, nicely decorated clean church to worship and pray for all the sick, dying and needy, while those people they are praying for are dying in the streets!!!! This is hyprocisy at it's best...I will never step foot in a church again if I can help it unless these things change....instead of sitting in a pew on Sunday afternoon, why not volunteer at the homeless shelter or food bank or give money to the needy instead of the church...if God was caring, he would want people to do that instead and I have a funny feeling that if he exists, those fancy churches are not what he wants....those fancy churches and collection boxes were put here to dupe people into thinking they are doing good when that money probably goes into some fund somewhere to support wars or genocide in countries that are seen as "undesirable". In my opinion, the masses have been mislead....if you really care about mankind, stop worshipping in a church and start helping your fellow man....nothing is being done by sitting in pew for several hours...thats not enough for us to do.....these are my opinions...I would like hear everyone's views on this as it confuses the heck out of me!!

Very interesting. I was raised by a christian family and I went to church every Sunday morning, every Sunday night and every Wednesday night. I know exactly what you mean. The church I attended went to great lengths to raise the money to build a new church. I often wondered why it mattered so much to have a beautiful building when we could be outside where nature provides more beauty than any building ever will. I guess that's why I quit going to church. I turned to paganism many years ago and am much better off for it! Not that it's a "religion" (I hate that word) for everyone, but it is for me. I believe in helping those less fortunate than me. Not that I have much, but what I do have I'm willing to share! So, your discussion poses a very good question and I wish I could answer it!!!

I cannot answer your questions and I wouldn't even dare to try as I am not a church-goer or a believer in God(s). I have my opinions and thoughts, though. I would really like to hear what others have to say as I believe they can articulate it better than I ever could. Interesting discussion.

I dont believe in god either and I personally think that religion is evil as it has started almost every war in History! I jsut wish I could find a concrete answer to this question as it would be interesting to see what people who are church-goers think.

First off Religion hasn't started any wars. It was men who wanted power and used religion to their means for power that started wars.

Okay, if you think they r misusing the money, just dont support them or dinate, i know you dont, and nor do i. I know these ppl r really misusing many humans blind faith, they r infact taking an advantage. And i rather give up my money for some poor on the road rather than these people. But remember this is not what The bible tells or orders to say. They call themselves christians, but simply because of that we cant assume they do what is instructe din the bible to do. But i completely have my faith and immensely belive in it. I know its the best book written and there r several important lessons to be learnt and morals r absolutely modest. If getting money is all what mattered, when Jesus was on this earth and the people offered him to be crowned their king, wouldnt he have accepted, but of course he is perfect no1 can question his righteousness. I do believ ein Bible and its word and i do belong to an organisation which isnt rich and doesnt bother about money.

Yes. Most of the funds are misused. Its better to donate to a charity rather than a donation box in the places of worship.

First you are believing that God is in charge of the Catholic Church, LOL! This 'Church from its conception has been about wealth and power. I am not talking about the catholic people as they believe that they are worshipping God. but the cardnals, bishops and the pope are nothing more than gangsters hording wealth as they preach poverty to their masses. The church is to feed and cloth the starving , the widows, and the fatherless. Instead they invest in banks and make millions more with usery. The people of faith would do better to stop giving to this and all corupt instatutions and find people in their own city to help, Finding someone homless, and hungry isn't hard. If the Church wont do the will of God then we must, Let the church burn.

I'm not sure what's going on with churches these days. Yeah I see some churches with a lot of decorations and are expensively built. I go to church every Sunday but my purpose is to worship and talk to God. I don't care if our church has a lot of expensive hangings on the ceiling and walls as long as I can have fellowship with God and to other Christians that's enough for me. From what I know before there were churches there were altars first made of stones which are of course built by men. In history, they use those altars for worshiping and sacrifices. Until Solomon (from the Bible) built the house of the Lord. Although God didn't say to build him an expensive house, Solomon built the house made of precious stones and materials because that's his sacrifice and offering to the Lord. In other words that's his own will. He built the house of the Lord out of David's (Solomon's father) effort when he became a king, because David was suppose to be the one to build the house of the Lord. From my point of view, a church is a place to where we can do the ministry of God and to worship Him. Our churches are not so fancy, they're just a simple building to where we can peacefully worship God in the middle of crowded and noisy cities. We also have ministries like feeding people, teaching kids and anything we think might help with lost souls. I guess what I'm trying to say is, it really depends who's the leader of the church. If God is not the head of the a church or religion, if you put everything in a man's hands then no wonder everything will be spoiled. I think some religions or churches do that but not all.
