A girl can never have enough pairs of knickers

is what my wife says. In our entirely female household, apart from me, and I've been known to wear a bra (!), we are overflowing with clothes. Especially those belonging to my daughter who is 19. Currently we could be confused for a small warehouse clothes store. This has got me wondering. What is it clothing wise, but NOT shoes or accessories, that you just cannot have enough of?

I need at least three dresses, four or five tops or blouses, three skirts for winter, and three skirts for summer. Oh that also does not count sweaters for winter, about four or five sweaters. You need so many clothes because of color matching. For instance I have a pale blue skirt, but my muted blue t=shirt will not go with it, and I have a navy skirt and my aqua t-shirt will not match that. If I get a burgundy skirt, I will work with a burgundy and pink blouse but not the others. Of course, that does not count a couple of skirts in white or grey. That is what I consider minimum.

Gosh Suspenseful that had my mind whizzing. But of course you need to combine colours appropriately and you clearly work hard at that.. They all sound good to me.

Im a female and i have 2 closets packed full (like sardines) and would still buy more. I have a big suotcase w/ wheels full of flipflops. Countless pairs of clogs and a couple pairs of regular shoes. If i see something i would like to wear a buy it.

I don't think that you are too unusual. My daughter has tons of clothes, enough for her own store I think.

I used to sell at a local flea market here. My daughter kept me well stocked in shoes.

Yep, Knickers are good to have lots of but bras are more necessary (as in terms of comfort) and usually in short supply. If there are fluctuations in a girls weight, knickers will adjust to fit the gain or loss. Not so bras. Some days we need a tighter, firmer bra and other days a roomier bra and still other days we need one that's just right. Weight variations can be caused by all sorts of female bodily issues and functions so it would be handy to have bras for every situation. Fashion also means we need a certain design of bra. How many women do you see looking sooo grotty because they have a lovely, fab, trendy top on and a skanky old bra underneath....oh puhlease ladies don't do that.

I am not such an expert in female weight fluctuations, but I can readily appreciate the skanky underwear smart on top thing. I agree completely. I also am not too keen on women that like to show off their underwear in public (or boys to that matter). I'm just old fashioned I guess.

I must be a carbon copy of your 19 year old daughter because I have TWO full closets and a Dresser full of clothing. Aside from shoes and accessories, I can never have too many... Bathing suits or T-Shirts.. I wear them both so much.

You certainly sound like her. She has a full trunk of clothes sitting in the hallway here because we don't know where to put them. She lives right next to the University pool so she is acquiring bathing suits too.

I would have to say underwear. I would also have to say make up. I have tons and tons of it. I can't imagine not having enough underwear or make up. I love shopping for them both.

Yep, it's nickers for me, too. That is the one thing that we change daily, for sure. It depends if we change the rest, on if it actually got dirty. But we're pretty fussy about our nickers being clean. And can't forget socks, too, since the dryer eats them. hee hee.

I'm glad that you underwear is clean Annie. Never thought for a minute that it wouldn't be. LOL. It's my mind that is dirty. Whatever shall I do about it?

Stroke that thought, P1key. Go with it, I say. Explore it. The mind is too wonderful a thing to waste. And quite interesting enough, it is attached to your body.

I would say underwear ,but if you were to ask my hubby he would say shoes for me , We are both a bit of compulsive clothes byers though , When we got marred (almost 47 years ago)he hadn't a lot of clothes , he now loves to have everything matching , he always looks really nice , smart casual but really nice , xx

I didn't do shoes because that was the subject of an earlier discussion of mine - over 70 pairs someone had! I try to look smart casual too. Silly thing is though that I always love the clothes in the shop, and once they are on me have serious reservations. It's good to be able to go into a shop and buy what you want. Although as a family, we're a bit too good at that and need to cut down. It looks like and Oxfam shop here sometimes.

Well she is probably right on that.Wow, that is alot of clothes.Maybe they could open their own used clothing shop with their old clothes and get friends and family into the mix that way everybody makes a little change for their old clothing. I have a closet full of clothes and a dresser, but my husband has more clothing then me and more under clothing and socks. Hey a girl has to have all the new trends and styles and with the ever changing trends and fashions you can keep them for a few months or years and they seem to come back in style, so in the long run it saves you some money maybe. If not then there is always the yearly yardsales. What is clothing wise that I just can't get enough of? Well, Since summer is right around the corner and it will be getting hot so I change clothes more often well you can never have enough shirts or underwear/bras so you can change several times a day atleast.

When it gets hot and humid it is so good to change your clothes at times. A year or so ago my daughter went to a boot sale (like a yard sale) and sold a load of stuff. But there didn't seem to be any fewer clothes her afterwards!

I NEED lots of knickers too, I know exactly how your wife and daughter feel. The trouble with womens pants is that they usually have rubbish elastic that snaps within a week and obvioulsy we need to wear a clean pair every single day and we need to wear the appropriate ones for the day and for what we're doing, for instance we need pants for 'fat' days and ones for 'thin' days, ones for 'those' days and ones for 'any' days. I hope that's cleared that up for you. As for any other item of clothing that I need lots of, well, I can't really think of any, I do have a favourite item of clothing though, it's a jumper which my Mum knitted for me, I designed it from some patterns in her book, then she made it, it started off as a jumper that fitted me very well, now it's more like a dress, but I'm not getting rid of it, it's my jumper and I need it, even though it's looking even more tatty than the inside of my head!

Wow. I didn't realise that knicker wearing was so complex. I don't have that problem than goodness. I look fat in any type of under wear. I am much better informed now thank you Dory. Jumpers, yes I love them. When my wife and I first met I had some very old hand knitted jumpers that I virtually lived in. But I do acknowledge that they had seen much better days. My wife took one look and said "let's put these away for best". 21 years later, I still haven't had an occasion to wear them. Do you think that she was trying to tell me something.

I HAD lots of clothes...now my husband keeps a check on what I get. But I've been thinking lately....and I realized that since I wear all kinds of clothes....I have lots of them...and different undergarments to go with each. But if you ask me, I've got lots of tops to go with my jeans....formals, casuals, T-shirts. I guess I have th most clothes in that area and I still want more....Indian ethnic...long tops...short tops. I have a dress code at work and can't wear everything I have in my wardrobe. I need to go out and get more clothes now! Good you reminded me.

Socks! We have a 'sock monster' in our household that comes out at night and eats one of a pair of socks! At least it is difficult for the monster to eat one side of a pair of knickers! And viz a vis your bra wearing days, I read in the press today we men have 'moobs' and you girls have boobs so we must wear a 'mra'. haha
@p1kef1sh (45681)
16 May 08
A mra! Sounds like a passion noise to me. The sock thing is a perennial. Apparently there is a sock monster that lives in the washing machine that steals or eats one and leaves the other. Sounds entirely plausible to me.

Sock monster...LOL A few months back my foster daughter was helping me with something when she stood up there was a jelly bean. My foster daughter promptly named said jelly bean, "Nadine" (no offense please to anyone with that name here!). Since then, the sock monster in our house has become "Nadine". We are always missing one sock of a pair and in desperation I finally told my foster daughter to wear one of each and make her own fashion statement. It worked. She now makes a fashion statement and we speak fondly of Nadine, our own personal sock monster. LOL

Pyjamas, pyjamas, pyjamas! I love my jammies - I live in them most of the time and I adore nice pyjamas! I do have a few flannel fleecy pairs but I like nice cotton trousers with matching or contrasting t-shirts or vest tops - fantastic - so comfy yet practical and not embarrassing to be seen answering the door in! Shoes hold no interest to me give me jammies everytime! What about you pikey - is it knockers or what? xxx

George Dawes the man with the scores - otherwise known as Matt Lucas -- I loved his jammies - I had some when I was a teenager and loved them but I think they only made them for a little while! If I ever find some for myself I will get some for you too! Sounds to me more like you need an excuse to get out and wear your suits and shirts rather than having a clearout! No wait a minute that is wrong - if you go out more you won't be here with us - no I agree with you , you really need to have a clearout honey! HUGS xxx

I love jammies too. I am untypicaly male in that respect I think. When Clare was a baby she had some lovely little ones with sewn in feet. I have always wanted a pair of those but never seen any. That bald chap off Shooting Stars had a pair, but his were probably custom made. I can stay for hours in my pyjamas, but usually don't. I just bought a couple of stripy pairs to replace some that were getting a little worn. Lovely. If truth be told though, my largest collection of anything is good shirts. I have over 30! I also have 3 or 4 pairs of trousers that need taking up and a suit that has never been worn. I really need to have a clear out. Maybe next week. LOL

Blue jeans...I'm addicted to them. I always seem to buy the same color of different brands though. I have no idea why I have such a need for jeans but I do. I have over 30 pairs!!!! I think I need to shave things down myself that way. Underwear is another thing I need a lot of. I never know what kind of underwear mood I will be in and a girl has to be prepared in any situation.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

Sorry Skinny as your post appeared I read the second line first. Something about "shaving down myself". Got me very excited for a second. I thought "not the response I was expecting. But it might be so much more interesting". LOL. Your response is still interesting though!! Over 30 pairs of jeans. I haven't owned that many in my whole life. Mind you, I have not owned a pair of jeans in over 15 years. What's the mood when no underwear at all is deemed appropriate. See what you do to me?

I clean houses for a living and since I charge a fair amount, most of my clients are very rich. You should see some of their closets. They have more clothes than is possible to wear all of it. I have one client that she has one whole bedroom converted to a closet and she has more clothes than some of the stores I have been to. She probably has 300 pairs of foot wear. She has about 500 pairs of pants and jeans and shorts, and I bet you, at least 1000 tops and blouses. She has all her clothes put into color catagories. She has shelves on all the walls as well as dressers and all of her pink tops, for example, are all on one shelf pile, all her white ones on another. She hangs up all her pants, again by color. The dressers are all just for her under clothes, like socks and bras and panties and pj's. It is rather sickening in some ways to see it all. I am sure she never wears most of it, but I guess since money isn't an option for her, she makes sure she never wears the same clothes more than once every few months. And she is only one of my clients. I have several clients like that, way too much clothes to possible wear it all. I don't have much clothes and that is okay. I have the basic things like jeans and pants and shorts and shirts and so on. I may have enough clothes, that if I didn't do the laundry till I wear everything, I wouldn't do laundry for about two weeks, not long huh. I could probably pack all of my clothes into maybe three suitcases, that's how little I have. The reason for this is, I have lost 28 lbs. and still losing weight, planned, and so I don't want to buy too many and have them too big on me after I lose the rest of the weight I want to lose. I want to lose another 15 or 20 pounds more.

One can only wonder at all those clothes just sitting there not being worn. I have a friend who does interior decorating for wealthy people. He has had clients that have ordered $10,000 of built in furniture only to ask for it to be removed as soon as it has been installed. The company won't take it back (unless it's faulty) because it is all custom built so they just throw it away and install another $10,000s worth!! How the other half live eh?

For me it would have to be black dresses. I have a wardrobe full of them. Long and short. I picked one up today from a boot sale for just a pound it is just perfect for a wedding i am going to in July. Not that i get a chance to wear them all as we don't go out that often but you never know.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

You know I don't think that my daughter owns a black dress! She'd probably say that she does and that I don't have clue. She would be correct. LOL. A pound is a real bargain. Enjoy the wedding.

hi pikey I also agree with your wife, its panties that I cannot have enoughof. for one thing Iam overweight so have to buy new ones that are bigger, then I diet lose some weight and have to buy new ones in a smaller size so you just cannot ever have too many panties,or knickers as you brits say.Besides you are always having some in the wash, so you just really need more lol lol
