How do you feel when others say that you're just like your mom?!?

While growing up, I always said to myself that I didn't want to grow up to be like my mom. I mean, she's nice and all. But she favored my brother more and stuff like that. Got impregnated early but never married the guy. Now, she's separated from the father of her 3 sons. So, when I myself got pregnant out of wedlock, my grand dad said, you're just like your mom. At first, I took it to heart. But as days passed by, it got me thinking. Where my mom is now, how she had accomplished what she had, how she raised my brothers without the help from a man. I can say she's one tough chick. So, when someone says I'm just like my mom. I just smile and appreciate what they say.

It is understandable to anyone who has a not so nice mom to be insulted if they where compare to their mom. But for me I never feel insulted by that even though we have some common things. I even took it as a challenge and I try to prove them that I may be like my mom but Im definitely better than her. LOL Don't get me wrong I don't hate my mom but there are some qualities of her that I think Im more better.

Usually when someone says, "you're just like your mom" to me they mean it in an insulting way. My mom has a tendency to be a little on the dramatic side. She has a temper, too, and is somewhat bipolar. I would say that I have a lot of my mom's traits, but they are not all bad. I am nowhere as extreme as my mom, but I did get her passionate nature. I also have some of my dad's easy-going attitude, too, so I think it balances out okay. If someone says I am just like my mother and mean it in a positive way, then I take it as a compliment. I think it all depends how people mean it.
