why earthquake is so difficult to predict?

May 12,2008 was a tragedy in China,my compatroits were killed and wounded.why correlative department dont have any warning about the earthquake?can earthquake be predicted in such developed society?

One saying that it is much easier to fly to the sky than go down to the earth. I am wondering what might be different if the invention made by Zhang Heng still exist.

im so sorry to hear this. even with the highly advanced technology that we have, i dont think we can predict with 100% accuracy. it would be best if we can. we will pray for your compatriots.

My sympathy to you and your countrymen. I think predicting earthquakes is an inexact science. I think seismologists can tell that an earthquake may occur,but they can not predict with any degree of certainty when it will happen.

Unlike hurricanes, tornadoes, and thunderstorms, earthquakes do not have any clear predictable means of predicting their future occurences.

It's really sorry to hear that. sometimes there is some sign , which is very unnormal, shows the disaster is coming. Maybe people show more take care of the unnormal thing of the nature.
