I've been selling my own bits and bobs on ebay for ages and have a very good feedback number. I've been thinking lately about offering my services to other people - collecting, photographing, listing and selling their items and then taking a cut of the profits and passing the rest on to them. I'm just not sure how much of a percentage I should take as commission, or if I should make any other kind of charges. Does anyone else on here do this? Care to share your experiences and knowledge?

Honestly, I would say no way. I have, twice, been asked to sell stuff for other people and it is a great deal of trouble and aggrevation. Each time there has been a problem, first the item was broken and I didn't know this at the time. The second time I was asked to sell some costume for a friend, I listed the costumes, got bids, finally sold a couple and then she was late sending them out to the winners, It really isn't worth the trouble.

I have before for family members, I took about a ten percent fee on commission minus ebay/paypal fees. There are some stores in our area called I sold it on eBay (I believe that is their name) and they take anywhere from twenty to thirty percent commission (minus ebay/paypal fees) & they only sell stuff with a value of fifty dollars or more. Therefore, I would say that you should charge anywhere from ten to thirty percent commission on the item depending on item value and perhaps a little less comission if it's for a friend/family member. If it's for a stranger I agree with I sold it on eBay, it's probably best to sell items that can get fifty dollars or more. However CDs/DVDs/Books are easy sells on eBay, but they usually don't get too much money if they're common. You have a nice day bluecat.

I'm actually in the process of doing that myself. I jsut started out with a small deal (my sister's stuff) just to see if I actually could/would do it. The only profit I kept from her was the handling fees from shipping, and I deducted her ebay expenses.
Once I go public, i was thinking of taking a 10% commision after all applicable fees.
What kind of fees were you going to charge, I'm curious as to other's ideas on this.

I used to sell all sorts of things on eBay, and managed to get a decent rating too. I considered selling for others myself, but then I thought about the amount of hassle that was involved in making each sale and imagined doubling that and dealing with the owner of the item too. I just decided it wasn't worht the grief.
Good luck though! How were you thinking of finding your customers?
