My daughter loved her 'Winnie the Pooh' mobile, it kept her entertained for hours, we also had a vibrating bouncer & a swing that converted in to a high chair - that was very handy for both feeding (later) & initially when she had trouble falling asleep - the vibrations of the bouncer or swinging motion of the swing helped up out a lot!
There are cute little wrist rattles that you can buy to put around your baby's wrist - they are excellent for keeping bub amused & anything that moves, flashes or plays music will do the trick.
Very newborns really don't need anything since all they do is eat & sleep anyway but the wipe warmers are supposed to be good & the nappy/diaper disposal units are handy for keeping the smell in & the nappies out of sight!

A wipe warmer, there is nothing worse then slapping a cold wipe on a tender new bottom.
We didn't have them when I had my first two, always had to get a warm wash cloth. With my last child the wipes were available. But living in the south where you keep the AC on all the time the wipes would be so cold.
To me, you just have to have a wipe warmer.
