Huckabee's SICK NRA Joke

Mike Huckabee captured many hearts during his campaign for the GOP nomination this past year, heck even I had to admit I liked him at times, but today he really crossed the line and then some.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/05/huckabee-jokes.html
This is what Huckabee had to say when during his speech a loud bang was heard backstage:
"That was Barack Obama. He Just tripped off a chair. He was getting ready to speak. Somebody aimed a gun at him and he…he dove for the floor."
Excuse me while I roflmao - NOT!! I have a sense of humor, nobody can say I don't and I'll laugh at myself and even laugh at political jokes aimed at those I support but this is way beyond poor taste. Making a joke about an implied assassination attempt against any candidate or elected official is just plain wrong, even sick! Sorry, Mike, you crossed the line big time this time. What do the rest of you think? Should we just laugh about it - or not - and forget it? I don't think so!

I thought that was awful too. It's tasteless, it's tacky... and hey, isn't this guy a minister or something? I saw a thing online that I'm attempting to attach here. I think it's awful the way the neocons try to tie all of their virtues up into Christianity. First of all, it implies that the only virtuous people are Christian, which is hardly true. Second, would Jesus Christ truly identify with the way they behave?
Some story online suggested that Huckabee shot himself in the foot, so to speak, in terms of his VP aspirations. I don't know that he ever had much of a chance on that anyway. But what jerky behavior he has demonstrated here. How about the sanctity of human life, any human life, whether you agree with their politics or not?

That was definitely a sik joke. I can't believe the nerve of some politicians. Though not likely to ever want to be in the same room with Hickabee, were I there, I would have gotten up and left. What a dumb thing to say.

I was actually pretty surprised to here that come out of Huckabees mouth. Out of all the Republican candidates this year I really liked him. I guess it's another example of open mouth insert foot. He certainly couldn't have been thinkng when he said it. However, as it has been pointed out all it takes is one nutjob to take him seriously and we have a problem. I can hear the defense now..if Marilyn Manson music can be blamed for Columbine, Huckabee can be blamed for this assassination.
My question is do you think that Huckabee's ill thought remark will have any effect on the Republican party as a whole? It may be shallow on my part, and I understand everybody has their moment, but it sure reminded me why I'm not a Republican.

As bad as this joke was, and it was bad I saw a clip live on the news. I do forgive Huckabee as I remember he was the only Republican candidate to honor Martin Luther King's birthday by going to King's church. Out of all the Republican Presidential candidates I felt like he was the most sincere and least prejudiced of them all. I don't think he meant to say what he said, he was trying to take something spur of the moment and make it funny. Unfortunately it did come out terribly considering our historical past. I'm pretty sure Huck will apologize though, he's not a bad guy from my take on him.

You're right, Jormins, Huckabee is the last one of the GOP candidates that I'd ever suspect of being prejudiced or anything like that, I guess that's why it made news. Yes, I'm sure you've heard by now, he did apologize. It's the nutty fringe types we have to worry about when something like that is said.

Seriously, it's like joking that you have a bomb in an airport. It just isn't funny. More than that, it is simply just a really stupid joke.

I don't consider it to be any worse then when Jesse Jackson was running for office a few years ago and Saturday Night Live did a skit showing him giving his acceptance speech while constantly running back and forth across the stage so no one could get a clear shot.
Methinks you should lighten up, and get used to the fact that if Obama does get elected that his head is going to be in someone's crosshairs.

After all of the threats I have seen against Bush over the last year, you have nothing to complain about.
Obama best learn to be a man real quick, because he is going into a man's world.... right now he is nothing more than a naive wussy who has no qualifications, no experience, and NO CLUE.
The ONLY reason he is even in this race is because he is black... what other 1st term senator have you EVER heard of running for president?
It is the democrats who are sick, and their chickens have come home to roost in OBAMA.

When did this turn into a discussion about why Obama is running for President? What "threats" have you heard toward Bush? If anyone said what Huckabee said about Bush they'd have been taken out in handcuffs and you know it. If you don't like someone, fine, if you don't want to vote for him DON'T, but I stand by my original comment that this is sick. It would be sick no matter who it was said about including if someone else said it about Huckabee!

Methinks you're one sick pup! What someone did on SNL years ago doesn't compare with what a former candidate and former governor said at a nationally televised event. I don't recall seeing that SNL episode but I agree that's also in poor taste.
