How Do You Deal With Stress?

Lately it seems like the pressures of life are just really overbearing sometimes, and to where I want to scream. I have been personally dealing with a company called Household Finance, and personally, they are the WORST company to ever have to deal with, and if you can avoid them, please do.
They will Never Credit your payments to them correctly unless you NEVER miss a payment, and for me, they were charging me like 25% interest to boot, and said anything I was paying them usually only was interest. So I paid them over $3000 and they were still trying to tell me I owed them over $5000 when my bill only kept on saying $3995.
What happened for me with them, is due to a situation with my Health, I ended up having to loose a job, and almost lost my leg due to being Diabetic. I even called this company when this happened, but they never wanted to work with me. So they ended up sending this to a company that they work with to collect payment from me. Which I was able to work with them, and made a small payment to them when I could, and never heard from Household Finance, so I thought the amount I owed was what this other company said I owed.
Well, the problem is, I got the balance down to just over $800, and Household Finance decides to take me account back over last October, and then without ever sending me a letter or anything calls me on a Sunday morning and starts harrasing me for payment on my account. Sunday morning of all days, and I had just been Credited with a payment to them like the end of September. So I was not a Happy Camper to say the least, and called and complained, and that is when I was informed I owed $3995, and they could never explain why, just that they took back over the account, and the other company would not ever talk with me.
So it took many months to get anywhere with this. I faxed in the other paperwork to them, and no one could explain the differences, or did not want too. They kept on saying I owed them the $3992 or so like my Bill said I owed. Then finally the end of February I was able to talk with someone and they said I owed almost $5,000 on my account even though my Bill I kept on getting said the other amount. When I questioned it, they said the other was interest, and I kept on asking what happened to all the other $$ I sent, and they said it was interest. I never paid on my actual amount. Then I asked why my Bill only always said the $3992 if I owed about $5000, and they never could explain it.
So I made an agreement with them in March as a Settlement amount of just over $2000, and paid them off April 1st. To this day, I have never received any Mail from them saying this was closed, and even received a Bill from them around April 15th saying I owed them still over $2,000. Then when I called them, they said they fixed it to where I owe nothing, and said they would send me a letter saying so. I asked when I would get a letter. They said by May 15th at latest. Well, I never have received a letter yet, and they act like I am the Bad guy when I called them asking where the letter was. Anything I have received from them since calling them with them saying I had a 0 balance, still shows the $2000+ owed on this still.
I have called my Local Radio Station, have filed other complaints never getting anywhere. What would you do if this was you, and what recourse should I take now? I am so upset and Stressed, and feel like I should be owed an explanation of some sort. Problem is my Credit Rating has been effected big time because of all of this as well. If anyone has some Suggestions, etc. please feel Free to share, as I could use them right now. Thanks so much, and Never deal with Beneficial or Household Finance if you can help it, as they are only in it for themselves.

I am sorry you are having so much trouble with this company. I also got loans from them when my husband and I were starting out and we had no problems like that. Even later on, when I was injured and out of work, they put us on a hardship plan and lowered my bill over 50 bucks a month. I called them, let them know what was going on and we did a financial statement over the phone and they agreed that I could not afford to pay the full amount. They worked with me, and they were paid off in time.
If I were you, I would get all the cancelled checks gathered up, and take them to the local office. Make sure you get names of everyone you talk to. Let them know whats going on and what the situation is. I would not leave the office without some kind of resolution.
I wish you luck in this matter, and with your health.
