Nocturnal- active in the hours between dusk and dawn (ie like a vampire.)
Daiurnal- active in the daylight hours of the day and sleeping at night normally
I am nocturnal, fortunately around the age that I figured out my cycle my mom moved us to Las Vegas. Where nocturnality (is that a real word? nocturnality) is not only not looked upon with suspicion but is rather viewed as a positive trait, as there are three shifts per day to be filled. Day, nights, and swing shifts. I hate sleeping period, and I try to avoid it as much as I can! I often feel like it is a waste of our finite and short span of time here on earth!

That's normal. that is how the human body clock is supposed to work. It is supposed to be dictated by the clock of the sun and the moon. But since people have invented lighting and lit up the darkness almost like day the night is as commonly enjoyed as the day now. And many people work at night because they like the quiet. I do my best work at night. or within the very first hour of the day when I wake up no matter what time that may be.

I am a straight forward day guy and i sleep 8 hrs of the night. Though it does feel a waste of time cause a normal 70 yrs old person would have spent 25 yrs of his life sleeping! BUT i don't think we're useful even in the day so it's all the same. Anyway aavoiding sleep is also unhealthy which decreases our stay on earth!

I am not trying to overextend my stay on Earth dear. I could care less. I am not big on sleep and I figure my bf gets enough sleep so when he is there he can go get some for me too. I will not have spent 25 years sleeping even if I live to be 100.

Daiurnal just means that the rhythms of your body flow towards the day rather than the evening or night time. Neither one is better than the other they both have drawbacks and advantages as with anything else.

I more often than not am still up when the sun comes up. Sometimes I go to bed between 3am and 6am and sometimes I don't go until 9am-noon. and no matter how tired I am once night falls I seem to get my second wind.

I'm more less a nocturnal person. i love the nightlife. I've always been like that, and probably always will. the darkness, or night time, soothes
my emotions, and gets me going for the night. I love being out in the earth especially at night. all of the nocturnal creatures are out, and you can hear them going about their ways throughout the night. I've stayed up till 5 in the morning surfing on the web, or chilling within the night.
thanks for asking, and have a beautiful night tonight!

Every night is beautiful. I love the way that you describe the night. It is very descriptive and calls to mind exactly what you are describing. Do you just like to go outside or do you like city night life?

you're an active one! no worries i'm just the same. i hate sleeping so i'm both daiurnal and nocturnal. i sleep for like 2 - 3 hours and that would be enough to last me the whole day. LOL

As you get older you will owe more of a debt to the bank of sleep and you will be making bigger deposites. But they say around age 60 to 65 that the body falls out of the cycle that affects it from about age 30 to 60 and will require less and less sleep. Interspersed with daiurnal naps. I am not neccessarily looking forward to it.

hello sharone.. I am also nocturnal, as my requires me to be.I've been working on night shifts for more than two years it suits me pretty well. i like it coz i don't need to travel in regular hours and experience the inconvenience of traffic during rush hour. i go home early in the morning so i enjoy the scent of morning dew. there are some drawbacks though since it kinda affects my social life. most of my friends are working on a regular day shift so we have less time t communicate. so i try to make it up to them or see them once in a while especially on weekends during my days off. however, as they all say, it wouldnt be good to go against nature. you're supposed to be sleeping at night because this is how you're body is programmed too like most species in this planet. otherwise, you may acquire diseases a long term result of being nocturnal. i am giving myself two more years though then i might look for a day shift job. LOLz. cheers!

The human animal is amazing and can adapt to just about anything. As long as you hold the body to a set routine. Sleeping around the same time everyday, going to work around the same time, etcetera the body will adjust with absolutely no ill effect on the body. Routines are the body and healths watch words not whether you maintain a "correct body cycle" or whether you allow the psyche like water to seek it's own level. I work at home so I fortunately can allow my body to cycle however it sees fit for me.

Oh, man, a girl after my own heart. I fully agree with sleeping seeming like a waste of our precious time on Earth. I cannot seem to convince any of my friends of that; they always seem to just want to tell me how much they like sleep. And this last summer I found out that I like nocturnality (which is now a word ^_^) so much better than this "daiurnal" thing. Unfortunately I've had to pick up a day job, so I'm trying to keep one of those ridiculous daytime schedules lately. Sounds like I might need to move to Vegas here eventually. I function so much better if I can sleep in the morning, and have afternoons, evenings and nights for doing everything. Glad to know I'm not alone on this one ^_^
