Affiliate Marketing is a popular method of promoting web businesses in which an affiliate is rewarded for every visitor, subscriber and/or customer provided through his efforts. It is a modern variation of the practice of paying finder's-fees for the introduction of new clients to a business. Compensation may be made based on a certain value for each visit (Pay per click), registrant (Pay per lead), or a commission for each customer or sale (Pay per sale), or any combination.

I would also like to add that affiliate marketing is like having your own business on the net without having to start from scratch, from conceptualizing what products will be saleable to finally marketing it.
I am just a newbie yet I know the potential of the internet in terms of affiliate marketing. What attracts me more to get involved with this activity is the passive income that some programs offer. With the right promotional tools, you can earn from as low as 0 to several hundreds a day, and this is a fact.
If not interested to sell other people's products, then you can develop your own product and find affiliates to market it :)
