What are your thoughts on mowing the grass?

Since spring is here people are constantly mowing their yards. Some people see it as a huge chore and then people like my husband LOVE cutting the grass. There are some people who only mow when the grass is too high, others I see mowing and watering their lawn like it's a full time job. (My neighbor is one of these people - he is ALWAYS mowing his yard!)
If you have a lawn or yard, do you mow it yourself or does someone else do it? Do you enjoy it or dread it? How much lawn mowing do you do?
If you don't have a yard, are you glad that you don't or do you wish you had one?

I don't mind mowing the grass. But because I've got other chores and I'm busy with other things, I can't afford to do that task more than a couple times a week. Usually, I do the mowing when it's ankle high. We have the manual mower and boy, the first time I used it, I thought my arms were going to fall off! It's a lot of hard work but I like it. Sometimes mowing the grass helps calm me in some way. Especially when there are days that I'm dealing with emotional problems.
My husband does his part in mowing our lawn, only when he has the extra time.

Hi,
Well I do own a house and have a lawn that I care for. I would have to say though that mowing the grass is not one of my favourite things to do. If fact I hate it! I always have an allergy attack, I usually get stung by hornets or bees and it is what I consider to be a waste of time! However, it always looks good when it is done!
cheers

Hahaha! Boy, have you hit a nerve of mine with this topic!
One of my neighbors is an elderly woman, who at 82 takes pride in her independence... she still plants a HUGE garden and is out on her rider mower every other morning mowing her expansive yard. She doesn't even let it grow 1/2 inch in between mowings... the sound of her mower running perpetually through the summer, starting early in the morning when I would rather be sleeping, used to really annoy me. Now I just ignore it because I figure everybody has their little idiosyncrasies. I know I have mine.
My other neighbor gets perturbed that I don't mow our lawn as much as he mows his, and sometimes comes over into our lawn and mows along the fence line as a hint!! That's a cop for you, always into somebody else's business.
But I've been making compost piles lately, and mulched grass and leaves makes EXCELLENT garden soil! I told my brother, (who is always hinting that I don't mow the lawn enough - it's his extra house that he is letting me live in). I told him if he gets me a mulching mower with a bag then I will be out there with the rest of the fanatics, mowing the lawn every 3rd day.
But they got another rider mower (my mother lives across the street), after I had managed to trade the old one off for 6 or 7 hundred builder's blocks to raise the garden beds with. I told them all if they want a rider mower around these yards, with all the landscaping and other obstacles to have to maneuver around, and especially since they know I want the clippings for the garden, and the rider mower doesn't have a bag, then they can be the ones to ride it, because I'm not gonna do it. So now the grass gets even higher than it ever did before because it has to wait for my sister or brother to come up and mow. It is a very satisfying revenge.
But I just found a Toro mower with a bag at an old house that is getting ready to be torn down. The new owners told me I could have whatever I wanted. I want that mower. I'm bringing it home on Monday. I hope it works, but even if it doesn't I will take it to get it repaired. It's a beautiful mower!!!
Hehehe, I wonder if you made it through that lengthy response?

I love to mow the grass and I look forward to it again. I haven't lived in a house with a yard for over 4 years, always in apartments, and now I am moving into a house at the end of the month. We will have a big back yard and I am going to plant a vegetable garden and a flower garden and cut the grass and all that stuff. I am happy about it as I have missed it for some time now.

I love to mow the grass. Its good exercise. I mow it about once a week or when needed. I hate when it gets real tall. My neighbor is one who mows their grass maybe once a month and it drives me crazy.

I dislike any form of gardening and try to avoid it as much as possible. Of course there comes a point when the garden looks like an amazonian jungle and I have no alternative but to cut it, but I would be happier if I could eliminate the task entirely.

I myself do a lot of gardening so mowing is just an extension to gardening. I also do a lot of flower beds etc in my yard. My lawn was a huge brown spot in front with hardly any grass growing when we bought it. Now I have neighbors and others telling me how great it looks and they're glad we live here and do such a great job at the landscaping of the place. I have an average sized front lawn and the back yard is about twice a normal sized city lawn. I mow about once a week usually. My wife sometimes enjoys mowing also.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We have a gigantic yard that my grandfather spends his time mowing. I don't like the idea of it. It seems like one of those boring, mindless chores that you'll never, ever finish. Which definitely is true since he's mowing the lawn every couple of days. It's just not for me.

When I first moved in my house, I didn't mind mowing the lawn. I had never done any mowing, so that activity was a novelty that lasted a short while. However, as more and more years passed, mowing became a chore. My mower was one of those primitive push mowers that stuck at every twig, forcing me to dig out the twig and continue mowing. This was tedious and made me work up more of a sweat than if I had been cycling. That's when I decided that it was easier just to hire someone to mow. The catch is that you have to find someone who is reliable and whose prices are fair.

Since, I have no job this time, I always mow our yard like once a week and I am glad doing it, It's another exercise for me! I always ask my husband to reserve it for me!LOL! Our neighbors do the same, it's like a regular routine for us, doing it once a week since grass grow way too fast!

We live in upstairs condos for a reason. It is a four letter words spelled L-A-W-N. If you don't have one, you don't have to pick up other people's doggy doo, or mow it, etc. I used to miss the opportunity to grow a few things and then we got the computerized indoor flower pots, lol. We are now totally glad not to have to cut the grass.
I hope your husband loves to dump the garbage, too!

We are lucky we don't have neighbor's dogs leaving us presents :) When we are older we will probably live in a condo on the beach :) Or maybe an island off north carolina's coast that we like. He's pretty good about the trash pick up each week...i rarely have to remind him!

I grew up with a yard and it had a tree in the front, I hated mowing around that tree. We had 4 in the back, same thing. I do love yard work though, it gets me outside and I can be involved in the lawnmower symphony. But alas, since we travel I don't get to do yard work, I don't envy those guys on 100 degree days doing it either. I use to have a great lawn in my cul-de-sac, we all had the same mower and would mow each others lawns.

mowing is a very big pain I have three trees i have to mow around and the braunches are really low and I have to duck inunder them and it hurts my back and my yard is uphill on a steep slope and has a lot of big rock stuck in the ground and if you hit one you have to replace the blades on the mower and to beat it al all I have is and old push mower and an acre to mow so if you ask me it is just a big pain in the butt not to mention I help other people mow their yards to get a little extra cash but it's not even enough to cover the gas anymore so all I think about when I think of mowing is pain and an empty wallet

At first I dread it because we have a lot to cut but then once I get started I don't want to stop. It is good exercise. This guy that lives up the road is one of those guys who loves to cut grass. Every time we drive by his house he is cutting grass even if it doesn't look like it needs it. :)

In our house it's a dreaded chore, mostly because most of it is on an awkward slope, lol. We wait until it's high enough and we are the last ones on the block not to have mowed yet. But I rather have the lawn than not having one. I just wish we could afford a riding mower or somebody to mow it for us;)
