LOL...my intentions to start early are always there but no such luck when I actually go to start the shopping. I always have one excuse or another as to why I can't shop that day. That happens a good 5 times before I actually do the shopping a few days before Christmas.

I don't do xmas shopping as in rushing out to join the rest of the maddened hordes besieging the shops, but if I see something that I think will make a nice present, I get it regardless of the time of year.

I don't do my Christmas shopping until November. I can't buy something now and hold onto it until December that would be to hard plus I won't know how much I can afford to spend on Christmas presents until Christmas actully gets here.

Some people say that it costs less to spread it out and buy them early than to what til last minute and try and fork all the money out at once. I think that is probably true!!!

Well I am going away for my holiday next week, a whole week of stuffing my face on junk food. Will you miss me, no gemini-rose for a whole week!! But I have already decided that when I come back I will be starting to save for christmas, I need to with all these little terrors that I have that call themselves children.
I usually start my christmas shopping in september once the kids have gone back to school after the summer holidays, then I can hide things away without them seeing. Ah but I have just thought, my daughter will be nearly 3 then and so will be able to speak more than she can now, that could be a problem. I better have a think about that.
Well that is when I normally start it anyway, and then I usually finish by the first week of December.

ok blind fold the little bugger while you shop. LOL!! No seriously talk to someone you trust and leave her with them for a little bit or make a play date where you drop your daughter off at her friend house and offer to do the same for the other mother that way you can both get your shopping for christmas done without the terrors I mean children. LOL!!!

I don't really have any shopping to do, per se. it's just my husband and myself. My extended family doesn't usually exchange gifts.
I'm saving mine to put on a bill, buy groceries, etc.

I'm slowly improving, as there was I time I used to rush around in the last week before christmas doing all my shopping. Now most of it is done by the end of November. One problem I have had in the past is that I've bought something for my young son early in the year because of a sale, and come christmas, my son seems to have aged so much in six or eight months, what I've bought seems a bit young for him.

We didn't give presents last year and won't this year either if things don't get better. Having to spend what we don't have in gas to see my mom at the hospital is taking all we have and don't have. It's terrible but darn it, when it comes to my mom, money is going to be no object.

Awww lucky_mom.... that's awesome!! How sweet of you to even consider doing that!! Every time I go to Petsmart, I donate a dollar to the welfare of homeless pets in hopes it'll buy them one more day to find a home. Now that I and my dad need the money for gas to see my mom and to help with the overwelming medical bills, it's very heartfelt when we get the help in one form or another.
Thanks so much!! It's very thoughtful of you to want to help others in need!! God will see that and you will be awarded!! Bless your heart!!

You just inspired me... Thank you, but I am sorry about your mom. I have recently started a web page selling educational toys for kids and custom holiday letters as well. I am going to raise my price just a little and put $1.00 from every purchase to help people such as yourself.

im sticking to that Plan as well. saving all of the lot money as well as any of my survey crap as well for the holidays. i do most if not all of my shopping online. i hate the crowds and the general attitudes of the masses at this sposed time of "cheer and goodwill" so i avoid them like the plague. shipping is usually rather swift and i usualy have everything ive purchased arrive withi a week or two time.. so im not planning on doing any shopping at all until after thanksgiving and give my accounts a chance to rack up there a bit before tapping into them.

before i managed to mend my credit that was destroyed by my ratbastard ex.. i used to start my xmayulhanukwanzica shopping in march. you remember the concept of lay-a-way? LOL id have all my "shopping" done by the end of the month.. and then take spend from april - november to pay for it all. now? citibank loves meeee.. so i hit the internet and start shopping about the beginning of november.. everything winds up delivered by those wonderful UPS and FedEx guys by mid decemberish and i have a couple of weeks of leisurely wrapping and making things pretty. no stores, no crowds, no hassels..

I'm thinking this is not the answer you are looking for, but I shop throughout the whole year. I am usually done with my Christmas shopping, except for my boyfriend by Halloween. Yes, I'm aware I'm "One of those people", but when I see something throughout the year that would be perfect for a person, I just get it then, then set it aside.
I actually have a cabinet set up in our storage area specifically for Christmas. After I buy the item, i write the name and occasion (like Christmas or birthday) and the date on a post-it and stick it to the present.
Once Christmas rolls around, I just wrap the presents(with the wrapping paper and bows that I've been hoarding all year as well) and I'm ready to go. I also keep a few gift cards to Best Buy and Macy's handy, because they work for everyone, so if I somehow forget someone, I have something last minute to give.

If only I could be that organized I would be happy LOL!! With five children when I shop I just try and get in and get out I never tend to look for gifts through out the year.

I usually start buying stuff around August. I just buy a few things here and there if I see something that I know someone will like. If I do it this way then I don't have to spend so much money at one time on presents for everybody.

Our family's "birthday season" starts in March and runs to the beginning of August (then we get a 2 month break and have 3 more between then and Christmas) so there is just no way I'm going to attempt Christmas shopping and birthday shopping at the same time...it's hard enough to do for the November and December birthdays when I have no choice! This year I have planned ahead enough to start the Christmas shopping sometime in September...after recovering from back to school shopping (5 kids in school this year! Yikes!) I'll probably try to get most of it done by the end of October...s/o is the one with the October birthday, but that's different than kids' birthdays. Then I can just deal with a few odds and ends until after the December birthday and still have roughly 2 weeks for those last minute items.

I should start saving things for Christmas now, but my problem is keeping things under wraps. Everytime I buy something for my boyfriend or son, I want to give it to them right now and see the pleasure on their face. I'm terrible at keeping that kind of secret.

No, i have not done it yet. It did not even cross my mind yet :) I will do it in the first days of december, or on the last days of november, but not faster. About the people who have their christmas shopping done before november, well they are spending their own money i guess, so i don't care to be honest.

I have a friend who does all her shopping on black friday I think she is insane to go out on that day at all. If I had the money maybe. But still I think I would end up in jail for running over granny who hit me with her cane while trying to get something. LOL!!!

i have a box that i put money in all throughout the year and i never touch whats in it unless am buying christmas prezzies. So i guess you can never be too early to start saving for christmas. in fact there is still money left over from last year in the box. money i was unable to buy presents with because i had more than i needed

I wish I had that problem. But unfortunately I have five kids and scattered birthdays through the months up to and after christmas so I have no money left around this time. LOL!!!
