I just came from Kmart, which is my favorite store. I put a bunch of stuff on lay-way. for those of you who don't know what that is. I put all of the things i wanted on hold and paid it off for up to 8 weesk.
Anyway, i went to pick my stuff up today and they forgot to give me the garbage can, a frying pan, and some clothes that I had for my little girl. So i had to call them and tell them i am coming to get my stuff. they said they will give me the garbage can but they can't find the other stuff so they are not going to give it to me.
Do you use lay-a-way? do you like to be able to put things on hold and pay them off in time?

I've never used lay-a-way. In fact, I don't even know ig any stores here in Canada offer it? It would be kind of handy to be able to put money down on stuff to hold it and then pay it off as the money became available.

Momma, if you put these things on lay-away, you should have your initial receipt. The missing items would be on that receipt wouldn't they? I'd speak to the manager about this. Something isn't right. I never use lay-away. I figure if I can't afford it and have to go in hock for it, then I don't really need it that badly. I can always find the money for the things I really need. Except books - there isn't enough money in the world for all the books I'd like to have! LOL

Well let us know how it goes ok? It would be a shame to lose your daughter's stuff just because some clerk can't keep things straight!

What??? They lost your stuff? That's crazy! I hope they refunded you for the lost merchandise! I have not used lay-away in years. I used to use it, though. Not many stores offer it anymore.
Hope you're doing well, 34momma!

I have not come across a store that does that 34momma. I had not realised kmart does this either. I wish a lot of other stores did this because I use this system back in New Zealand and we called it Lay-by.

I don't use lay-a-way for just that purpose. I know it helps sometimes when you had rather pay it out, but I had a very bad experience with two major supercenters and ended up loosing things I bought and money. So,now, if I can't afford to buy it, I just save the money up and buy it outright. No more layaway for me.

I like to use layaway at christmas time. But I don't think we have any stores around here anymore that provide layway. Our Walmarts stopped providing layaway about 2 years ago. Now I have to buy alittle at a time for christmas.

I love lay-away! It's one of the greatest things when a store offers it, it makes it so much easier to make payments on it. I used to use it a lot, especially around Christmas and birthdays, etc. Sometimes I'd use it just to take advantage of a good sale, or buy a tv or something. I wish more stores would offer that as an option. Gee, I hope on your lay-away ticket they gave you the price back on the items you didn't get! Seems odd that they'd 'lose' it, as each person's merchandise is kept in a large box or bin and marked.

We dont have a Kmart locally anymore, I know...sad I loved that store also, but Walmart USED to offer layaway. I used it all the time. It was about the only way I could afford at the time to buy my kids clothes. LOL Im not really sure why they stopped doing it, my cousin who works there said it was because most people are starting to do their shopping online now. So with that, my local walmart has added an area for those online shoppers. Sort of like the layaway area. You go in with your order number and they bring you your stuff. I do that every once in a while, sometimes I can find something Im looking for online but not in the store, so that is nice as well. We have a Target, but I dont make it there very often its about 45 minutes away. (I live away from everything unfortunatly, walmart is 30 minutes away) But I think they offer Layaway as well. I may have to check that out and see...we all need bathing suits LOL

My mom used to use Lay-away a lot when I was younger. She'd put things on hold that she wanted or that I wanted until she was able to pay them off. It really came in handy for birthdays and christmas. Now we really do not shop at any places that still use lay-away so we don't use it anymore. I wish Walmart still used it because I'd probably use the Lay-away at Walmart.

I haven't shopped at K-mart in years. We do not live close to one anymore. I used to love to shop there also and get so something to eat at their snakc bar when they used to have one. I loved to get their icee. I used to use lay-aways but our stores do not offer that anymore around here. eben Wal-mart stopped using a lay-away department.
