Once upon a time, box office wasn't all about comic books. Taking inflation into account, these are the top 10 romantic moneymakers, only three of which came out in the past 20 years.
1. Gone with the Wind (1939)
The Clark Gable- Vivien Leigh doomed love drama is the box-office champ of all time.
$1,329,453,600
2. Titanic (1997)
With downloading and DVDs, many people think there will never be another Titanic. Others hope so.
$844,515,900
3. Doctor Zhivago (1965)
More impossible love, period Russia and that haunting, inexcapable sound track.
$816,811,300
4. The Graduate (1967)
As it turns out Mrs. Robinson seduced millions.
$563,059,800
5. Love Story (1970)
The perfect formula, maybe too much so: gorgeous lovers plus doom plus theme tune.
$460,587,800
6. Ghost (1990)
Lovers who can't be there.
$338,641,200
7. Top Gun (1986)
Hotshot pilot trainee beds hot flight instructor.
$313,546,200
8. An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)
A poor but principled gentleman
$287,262,100
9. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)
more about parents than the lovers
$284,631,000
10. Pretty Woman (1990)
The film that launched 10,000 polka-dot dresses.
$277,520,900
Which ones have you watched? liked? disliked?

Wow I'm surprise at the all time No.1 "Gone with the Wind", considering the value of movie ticket during those time. I miss 4 movies: Gone with the Wind, Doctor Zhivago, The Graduate and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. For the rest I am proud to say that I am one of the viewer that put them on those ranks.

the ranking takes into consideration the inflation of the US dollar over the years...so the #1 movie, Gone with the Wind, did not necessarily earn that big during its time, but converting its sales to today's US dollar value, that is how much it earned.
congratulations to you for being able to watch 6 out of 10 of these movies. that is more than half!

I would have thought Titanic would have taken the top spot there. it was epic win. but oh well...i guess NO#2 is good enough. gone with the wind is a classic to be sure.
