How to put copyright(c) 2008 myname? ( In my web pages)

I have created a website. I wanna to put copyright(c) 2008 myname at the bottom of each page is it legal to do so, without registering in any of the copyright office? If it is not legal what would happen If I do so? i.e., without registering in copyright office and I use the above logo on each page.
